With all the games coming and going, some sneak up on me. Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is one of them. It's due this Sunday for PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and Pandemic's released some new content today as part of the final advertising push.
If you don't know much about the game, the launch trailer below gives a good overview. Like its predecessor, Mercenaries 2 is a "sandbox" action game that puts you in command of a highly-trained mercenary blazing a trail of carnage through a foreign country with an uncomfortable current relationship with the U.S. (first North Korea, now Venezuela). You'll choose from one of three mercenaries, the same cast of the first game - and yes, the nihilist dude from The Big Lebowski still does the voice of the Swedish merc Mattias.
Unlike the first game, though, you'll be able to swim and control boats in this game in addition to the usual offering of air and land vehicles. That's right, no GTA-style water of death this time around. Other new features include online co-op, a hijacking minigame, and the ability to build your own private military company to recruit helpful henchmen. New fire effects engine, too, in case you're into that sort of thing.
