Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Vs. Halo 3

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Vs. Halo 3 The battle of the titans has already been initiated; gamers are already stoked for two very, very important titles for the Wii and the Xbox 360. Only, the Wii60 is no longer going to be fighting on the same side, but rather, against each other. Gamers are going to have to make an executive decision between Metroid Prime 3 and Halo 3.

Interestingly enough, both games are key instruments for stabilizing our perception of both the Wii and Xbox 360's core capabilities. They'll key-note what the next-generation of gaming is supposed to be like from here on out, and what the competition will use as a measuring stick for success and achievement in interactive entertainment. So how do they measure up? And which one seems more worthy of your hard-earned dollars? Keep reading and find out.

Now the release dates for both games are neither entirely set in stone nor entirely floating rogues. But Halo 3 is definitely planned to make a late 2007 appearance, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has two very venerable release dates, which is either set for this summer or, the very risky but plausible release in the fall, alongside Halo 3. It’s easy to throw out the latter assumption because a lot of people would be convinced to believe that MP3C wouldn’t stand a chance against Halo 3. But then again, no one thought the Wii would stand a chance against the PS3. And, let’s not forget that the Wii had a much better (and continued) selling rate for its launch, as opposed to that of the Xbox 360. But enough dittle-dattle, let’s get right down to it.

Round 1: Price

$100 Legendary Edition of Halo 3 has already made to the top of the pre-order charts at GameStop. So obviously gamers aren’t afraid of dishing out the green-goods for H3, despite knowing very little about it. Metroid Prime 3, however, already has gamers wishing they could pre-order it–even though the retail price is still questionable. What could actually work in Metroid’s favor, is the price, though. If the game was released during the summer (even at $59.99) and had a $10 price drop during the release of Halo 3, a lot of gamers would be hard pressed to choose between the two titans. Nintendo’s market strategy for using price as an ace up their sleeve could really give them the leverage they need against Halo. And let’s face it, H3 isn’t going to drop below the $60 mark for the next three years, after its release.
Winner: Metroid Prime 3

Round 2: Gameplay Features

A Mongoose versus a rolling ball, and the Spartan laser versus using the Wii-mote to aim like a mouse and keyboard. H’m, comparisons, comparisons. I hate to say it, but Metroid Prime 3 has a lot of innovation coming right off the boat. Why? Well, first off it has the Wii-mote and Nunchuk setup. If that's not original I don't know what is. Next, the gameplay itself has great utilization for the new Wii-mote schematic; opening doors using various motion-sensored movements, grappling to walls and other objects, and even the basic shooting mechanics are peaked on ushering in a new way to engage in FPS games. Halo 3, alternatively, has the Mongoose, has the Spartan laser, has the new Brute weapons, and...well...it’s Halo. I think more than ever Bungie is pulling the “Halo” card to promote the final outing in the trilogy. The biggest problem is that while Halo 3 is hot property, it’s not very innovative property. We’re not looking at a vast assortment of customizable vehicles or characters, and the weapon selection is sparse in comparison to other military games on the market. However, being that this article is specifically a comparison between H3 and MP3C, one must admit that Master Chief’s weapon selection in Halo 3 does look more inviting than his female antagonist, Samus. Dual-wielding the Brute pistols, or quickly dumping the Covenant auto-rifle for two, revamped needlers already has my fingers itching for some space-age shooting. And there are at least more operable vehicles in Halo, than a simple rolling ball found in Metroid Prime. Still, it’s a tough call. But Halo 3 seems to pull through with a few more generic gameplay features than Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Winner: Halo 3

Round 3: Multiplayer

Why is this here if Metroid doesn’t have multiplayer? Says who? It hasn’t been confirmed, entirely, or denied, entirely. This is what could be the deciding factor for Metroid’s success or bust against the man in the green armor. We already know what the prime strengths of Halo 3's multiplayer are going to be, and at the same time that also proves to be its weakness. Simply, Bungie feels that 16 players are a good enough standard for online play for Halo 3. But if that’s also going to be the limit for Metroid Prime 3, then Halo won’t have much of a one-up over it’s supposedly “inferior” console rival. What would be more shocking, is if the Wii featured 24-player support for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Bungie’s parochial features for Halo 3 would make it a laughing stock. Even now, the idea of H3 being the final outing on the Xbox 360 and only supporting 16 players really limits the game’s scope as a real next-gen title. Not to stray on a tangent, but Huxley is boasting 100vs100 PVP arenas, and Citizen Zero will be able to hold 2000 players in one area, with ease. Both games will be on the Xbox 360, so space, power, or availability is certainly not an issue. You can make all the excuses you want, but if you don’t want to play with more than 15 other people, then set the limit on the room. But for gamers looking to experience next-gen multiplayer action, it certainly isn’t happening with only 16 players.
Winner: (By default of Bungie’s arrogance) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Overall, both games have a lot going for them. And while Halo 3 is the odds on favor because of its track record, don’t be surprised if Retro Studios swept the rug out from under Bungie’s feet. Heck, that’s exactly what happened with the Wii and PS3. So it’s not entirely impossible. Regardless, both games will launch at the suggested retail price of $59.99, and you can look for both games to appear on store shelves sometime before the fourth-quarter of 2007.

  • Ok I don't think any has the right to say metroid OR halo sucks. They're both fun. I'm kind of a Nintendo fanboy BUT I think halo has better features, online multiplayer (considering metroid doesn't have any) and graphics. However metroid has better gameplay (I really don't like joysticks anymore). Personally I like metroid better and I think halo is a bit overrated. That's just my opinion. So everyone shut up. Metroid is great and halo is too. They are both better than each other in different ways
  • Oh my gosh, u guys r stupid, no offense, halo 3 doesn't just have awesome campaign, multiplayer, and xbox live, but have u seen forge, does metroid prime have forge, can u system link, can u make ur own level, can u watch what u did in an earlier game, no, halo 3 has wooped metroids butt!!!!! Have u gotten on xbox live for halo 3? Have u seen how many ppl get on at once on a normal day? The lowest ive seen would be about 30,000, the highest ive seen would be around 80,000 people on, on a normal day. HALO # KICKS BUTT!!!!!!!!!
  • well ur arguement is rather illogical when u say that metriod beets halo in multiplayer modes mp3c has no multiplayer mode i own it i know and agian there is no real way to compare the two games because they are in completly diffrant styes of game play and to cut halo down becuase u say it is not inovative enough is just stupid bungee got it right the first time that is why not much has changed and metriod just agrivated people like me who wated for prime 3 as a game cube release realy it was worth the wait. but u can not compare the two great games of our time
  • and i also see that this site seems to have some grudge against halo
  • i get bored of just shooting in halo3 and start playing mp3 but when a puzzle frustrates me i play halo3 i think multi player is the only diffrence ps (metroid has better story line)HALOID 4 EVER
  • "I HAVE played both; they're both really good games. However, Metroid's innovations and weapons, including schemes KICKS Halo's ASS!"
  • "I HAVE played bith and all in the serires. They're both good, but Metrod's innovation, trading, bonuses, and multiplayer is AESOME!!!, ... --- IT KICKS Halo's ASS!"
  • What do you mean metroid wins multiplayer? Metroid Prime 3 doesnt have multiplayer plus halo has some of the best multiplayer I've ever seen.
  • im a fan of both halo and metroid but wow......mp3 doesnt even got multi plater wtf!...how does mp3 win that....and wtf is up with it "only" supports 16....are you guys fucktards are what!?!?!?!?!?!?!? since when does number of players got to do with how good multiplayer is>?<, you guys are stupid....i am a pro at halo pc...and sorry to say 16 people is plenty....thats all halo needs is 24 people nadeing and noob killin that would be hell so stfu cause you dont know anything r-tards.....i set a score of 133kills and 23deaths and 1 flag return in halo pc...and play halo all the time, i think i know what im talking about when it goes to halo online multiplayer, and if 16 players sucked why would there be so many people play halo online!?!?!!?!?!?!? jeeze learn about what games you are comparing beofore posting your gay review!
  • Halo has been always be over hyped. The control is pitiful, the graphics aren't anything for such a game console, the sound isn't nice. Overall, it's just that, and overall game with a lot of hype.

Give me Metroid Prime 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Haze or Crysis any day of the week.
  • To those who throw sales around? You're idiots. Sales don't mean fuck all! Example? Okami VS. The Incredibles: I think we all know which is the better game in terms of originality, how engaging it is etc. But which sold more? You know the answer. The worse one. By no means am I saying Halo sucks, in fact, it's a brilliant game. But let's face it was it revolutionary? No, in my opinion. And don't say the multiplayer was revolutionary, because we all know they essentially took the Goldeneye multiplayer style, and added bigger levels, vehicles, and more players. Whoop-de-friggin'-doo! Metroid on the other hand was a lovingly crafted game that turned the traditional FPS genre on it's head. Not to mention the immense detail and backstory that was crammed into every inch, (as evidenced by scanning). I'm no fanboy, but Metroid pleased me more. It was hair-rippingly harder in my opinion too.

But on the flipside, Halo does what it does extremely well. You can't actually compare these two games to begin with. Metroid Prime was designed for FPS haters like me. With Halo being the more traditional experience.
  • Halo 1 was a complete classic along side with Metroid Prime, and thought to my self FPS will never top these two. Halo 2 was nothing special, new guns, new maps and a much more corny and dragged out storyline. Halo 3 was the most over hyped FPS in history, it didn't meet my expectations, it certainly isn't the best game, and it should never ever win GOTY, Bioshock should stomp all over that over-hyped pos. I have all achievements and have completed every aspect of the game, just to shut my friends up. The story was just crap, lost interest on the 30 mins. The only thing that is worth spending time would be the multiplayer, but I didn't buy a game just for multiplayer. As for the final boss battle... it was downright retarded, any dim witted console gamer could of beaten this.

Metroid Series in the other hand is just a concealed package of awesome. Never got bored in any part of the game, there was always something challenging, especially the boss battles. This would be the best thing since the coming of Jesus. Any half decent gamer would agree with me.

    Overall, Metroid > Halo
  • truth is halo pwns with multiplayer but metroid has been doing the alien shotting for AGES but if i were to give these games ratings, i'll give halo3 I DONT CARE/10 and Metroid Prime 3 I DONT CARE/10 because I DONT CARE. Im more of a mixed video gamer fan rather than a nintendo or halo fanboy because I DONT CCCCCCCCAAAAAAAARRRRRRREEEEEE!!!!!!!!
  • I forgot to mention.....
    MULTIPLAYER
Well, um, with 16+ players, Halo3 wipes the floor with mp3.
  • ffs whoever thinks halo 3 is awesome is stuipid as f*&k there is no difference between halo 2 and halo 3 similiar weapons similiar gameplay where as metroid has all new gameplay metroid prime three releases a new era of gameplay unlike halo 3 which is the same old boring game which is like every other fps.
  • "Everyone knows Halo is the Multiplayer king"

O.K all you freaking Halo fans just shut the hell up already, i've heard enough of this bull**** saying that Halo's the king of multiplayer, look at Half life, i've seen more servers on that then halo, yes halo may have the high end graphics and the woopy do weapons.

but when it comes right down to it, look at the modifications of half life 1 and half life 2... Hell even look at Unreal tournament and its series, there have been more mods that have had great successes then halos mods and even then so there are people making mods for metroid on halo just to give it the nintendo feel.

i love how you bash down nintendo so much just because they dont want to go multiplayer, because there are problems with sustaining connections that dont suck to give players an uncanny advantages let alone the exploiters and hackers that will join and cheat just to get a good laugh out of it.

If you seriously want to keep saying how great the game is why dont you just go back to the original "GRAND"Dadies of FPS's like Doom 1 or even Wolfenstein, play that for a few minutes and let it sink in, halo is the same as those you just walk around killing things but wow... "Its got better graphics" who gives a shit... by and by all FPS's have their "run and gun" modes that halo has surprising yet again used to its fullest and tried to go higher... but no you cannot go higher in it at all..

im just sick of hearing it all from you guys.. honestly just get a life and start doing something better then gaming!

Note: im not trying to flame you all but im just sick of it from school from the net even from my neighbors
  • I played both Halo and Metroid prime. Halo was extremely easy to complete and did not need any knowledge at all to finish the game. Metroid Prime on the other hand required a lot of thinking. Metroid is more like a Puzzle/ strategy game instead of a shooter. I prefer Metroid because it is much more than just sci-fiction warfare.

the only thing that disappointed me about Metroid prime 3 is THERE IS NO MULTIPLAYER.

Now, the point i am trying to make is that the METROID PRIME SERIES ARE WAY BETTER THAN THE HALO SERIES
  • WTF! dude halo OWNS mp3. the story line is one of the best it doesnt suck at all. It seems stu[id when you think about what your actually fighting. but in the end the story line.. the guns.. the intensity its all better than mp3.

HALO 3 multiplayer 0wnz mp3's btw.. this site it stupid for posting thay halo rank was 9.5... so was mp3's.. but still a lot of people prefer halo. its story= way better than mp3's

    HALO 3 FTW!! FTW!!! FTW!!!
  • I am a fan of all games that are great, Halo is a great game but Metroid is an even better game. Yes Halo is next generation, has 3 good games under its belt, but how many great games in different plat form does Metroid has?, Metroid has conquer both the handheld and the platform before Halo was a dream in a programmer sketching book. Don’t get me wrong I love Halo and own Two Xbox and Xbox 360 for Multy-player action, Halo has a well written story and good game play, but Metroid had and excellent story when story telling was the games selling point due to the graphic constrains, now and day you cam make a game with no story but the best graphics. Besides, who can forget the moment when the player found out that Samus was a chick? Have we not seen Samus evolved to the hot chick in the 0 outfit? It’s a tough choice but Metroid has way too many innovations and game play than Halo 3. I have spent a considerable amount of time playing The new Metroid than trying to finish Halo 3. (single player Metroid, multy player action Halo 3)
  • Are you kidding me? Metroid Prime has got nothing on Halo 3 at the least. Graphics, gameplay, storyline, Halo 3 has it all. Besides, the only Wii game considered an equal to Halo 3 is Super Smash Bros Brawl, these two franchises being the best of them all. Even though i own Corruption, I'm going to have to go with Halo 3 definitely
  • well both have victories in their respective fields. Halo is a first person shooter giant that appeals to many for its sensless war violence and near future settings (I personaly like that aspect, bring the violence!!!). Metroid on the other hand has a more artistic and far off story that to me is simply more in depth and more interesting (dude GF marine war game would be awsome). Both games have great controls and gameplay and offer different options, I love Halo's moulti weapon and very realostic combat, while i love Samus' arm cannon weapons and interesting puzzels the metroid series offers. I personaly see metroid having the more interesting environments, with the four plannets that are so similar yet so different from earth, halo is more of a bunch of steel plated bases and earth looking battlefields. many people also regect metroid 'cuz Samus is a chick, strange huh? over all I'd say a draw because they are both very different.
  • Halo is okay... Halo 1 sucked, Halo 2 got better, and Halo 3 is pretty fun.
But Metroid is a much better franchise, which has more than just a lot of gun's, and a few vehicles... and it most definately has a better storyline.
So all in all Metroid is way better. I also feel that Round 2 was incredibly biased...

"Halo 3, alternatively, has the Mongoose, has the Spartan laser, has the new Brute weapons, and...well...it’s Halo."

That is the most biased part of that whole round... especially saying... 'And...well...it's Halo' that's so bad. So all in all, is you don't count the biased round... Metroid wins.
  • Why are people all up in arms about Metroid beating Halo in multiplayer? It's a joke, holy smokes. Metroid has never been multiplayer, and won't be. There can only be one Samus Aran. Halo 3 is pretty intense, but I've loved Metroid since the beginning. It's going to be hard to shake me from that opinion. Usher was right, the controls for Metroid just seem to make sense, it feels like a more natural way to play. I say Nintendo did a kickass job with Metroid considering the Wii console is inferior in power to the 360. Sure all of the Halos were great games, but Metroid has a 20 year legacy. There will not be new Halo games 20 years from now, mark my words. Oh yea and Metroid has a heroine... that's pretty rare in video games, and it's always nice to see a female main character kicking alien ass.
  • man i dont like halo but damn this is crazy metroid over halo 3 there nuts i would pick halo any day
  • Honestly, halo 3 fanboys are just clinging on to their obsolete xbox 360s and swearing at us wii-owners like crazy. It doesn't take a genius to realize that the wii-mote/nun-chuck combo is infinitely superior to the stone-age controllers that microsoft still uses. Its not our fault you were too afraid to try something new, or too stupid to realize it's better. in the xbox 3 or whatever they come up with, they'll undoubtedly rip-off the wii-mote and you guys can feel safe because microsoft supports it, so it must be okay.
