Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Vs. Halo 3

By William Usher: 2007-02-27 00:25:20
Hyp on N4G
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Vs. Halo 3 The battle of the titans has already been initiated; gamers are already stoked for two very, very important titles for the Wii and the Xbox 360. Only, the Wii60 is no longer going to be fighting on the same side, but rather, against each other. Gamers are going to have to make an executive decision between Metroid Prime 3 and Halo 3.

Interestingly enough, both games are key instruments for stabilizing our perception of both the Wii and Xbox 360's core capabilities. They'll key-note what the next-generation of gaming is supposed to be like from here on out, and what the competition will use as a measuring stick for success and achievement in interactive entertainment. So how do they measure up? And which one seems more worthy of your hard-earned dollars? Keep reading and find out.

Now the release dates for both games are neither entirely set in stone nor entirely floating rogues. But Halo 3 is definitely planned to make a late 2007 appearance, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has two very venerable release dates, which is either set for this summer or, the very risky but plausible release in the fall, alongside Halo 3. It’s easy to throw out the latter assumption because a lot of people would be convinced to believe that MP3C wouldn’t stand a chance against Halo 3. But then again, no one thought the Wii would stand a chance against the PS3. And, let’s not forget that the Wii had a much better (and continued) selling rate for its launch, as opposed to that of the Xbox 360. But enough dittle-dattle, let’s get right down to it.

Round 1: Price

$100 Legendary Edition of Halo 3 has already made to the top of the pre-order charts at GameStop. So obviously gamers aren’t afraid of dishing out the green-goods for H3, despite knowing very little about it. Metroid Prime 3, however, already has gamers wishing they could pre-order it–even though the retail price is still questionable. What could actually work in Metroid’s favor, is the price, though. If the game was released during the summer (even at $59.99) and had a $10 price drop during the release of Halo 3, a lot of gamers would be hard pressed to choose between the two titans. Nintendo’s market strategy for using price as an ace up their sleeve could really give them the leverage they need against Halo. And let’s face it, H3 isn’t going to drop below the $60 mark for the next three years, after its release.
Winner: Metroid Prime 3

Round 2: Gameplay Features

A Mongoose versus a rolling ball, and the Spartan laser versus using the Wii-mote to aim like a mouse and keyboard. H’m, comparisons, comparisons. I hate to say it, but Metroid Prime 3 has a lot of innovation coming right off the boat. Why? Well, first off it has the Wii-mote and Nunchuk setup. If that's not original I don't know what is. Next, the gameplay itself has great utilization for the new Wii-mote schematic; opening doors using various motion-sensored movements, grappling to walls and other objects, and even the basic shooting mechanics are peaked on ushering in a new way to engage in FPS games. Halo 3, alternatively, has the Mongoose, has the Spartan laser, has the new Brute weapons, and...well...it’s Halo. I think more than ever Bungie is pulling the “Halo” card to promote the final outing in the trilogy. The biggest problem is that while Halo 3 is hot property, it’s not very innovative property. We’re not looking at a vast assortment of customizable vehicles or characters, and the weapon selection is sparse in comparison to other military games on the market. However, being that this article is specifically a comparison between H3 and MP3C, one must admit that Master Chief’s weapon selection in Halo 3 does look more inviting than his female antagonist, Samus. Dual-wielding the Brute pistols, or quickly dumping the Covenant auto-rifle for two, revamped needlers already has my fingers itching for some space-age shooting. And there are at least more operable vehicles in Halo, than a simple rolling ball found in Metroid Prime. Still, it’s a tough call. But Halo 3 seems to pull through with a few more generic gameplay features than Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Winner: Halo 3

Round 3: Multiplayer

Why is this here if Metroid doesn’t have multiplayer? Says who? It hasn’t been confirmed, entirely, or denied, entirely. This is what could be the deciding factor for Metroid’s success or bust against the man in the green armor. We already know what the prime strengths of Halo 3's multiplayer are going to be, and at the same time that also proves to be its weakness. Simply, Bungie feels that 16 players are a good enough standard for online play for Halo 3. But if that’s also going to be the limit for Metroid Prime 3, then Halo won’t have much of a one-up over it’s supposedly “inferior” console rival. What would be more shocking, is if the Wii featured 24-player support for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Bungie’s parochial features for Halo 3 would make it a laughing stock. Even now, the idea of H3 being the final outing on the Xbox 360 and only supporting 16 players really limits the game’s scope as a real next-gen title. Not to stray on a tangent, but Huxley is boasting 100vs100 PVP arenas, and Citizen Zero will be able to hold 2000 players in one area, with ease. Both games will be on the Xbox 360, so space, power, or availability is certainly not an issue. You can make all the excuses you want, but if you don’t want to play with more than 15 other people, then set the limit on the room. But for gamers looking to experience next-gen multiplayer action, it certainly isn’t happening with only 16 players.
Winner: (By default of Bungie’s arrogance) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Overall, both games have a lot going for them. And while Halo 3 is the odds on favor because of its track record, don’t be surprised if Retro Studios swept the rug out from under Bungie’s feet. Heck, that’s exactly what happened with the Wii and PS3. So it’s not entirely impossible. Regardless, both games will launch at the suggested retail price of $59.99, and you can look for both games to appear on store shelves sometime before the fourth-quarter of 2007.

    Halo 3 FTW!

  1. brno32 Says:

halo is still halo. when it comes down to it i dont think some game like metroid could beat it. one thing this site did not put on was story halos story will own metroid. also they gave metroid multiplayer? please after halo2s succes with online it wont matter if metroid can have 1,00,000,000,000 people. bungie knows what they are doing. they are not stupid

  1. Halo117 Says:

IS IT JUST ME OR DO THESE GUYS SOUND LIKE NINTENDO FANS. IM NOT TRYING TO BE BIASED OR ANYTHING, BUT THERE REALLY IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN WHAT IS ARGUABLY THE MOST POWERFUL BRAND IN GAMING (HALO) AND METROID. HALO IS ALREADY THE KING OF SHOOTERS ON CONSOLE AND PC. HALO HAS 3 YEARS OF ONLINE EXPERIENCE OVER METROID AND IM PRETTY SURE BUNGIE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH MULTIPLAYER.

  1. BRP Says:

"Winner: (By default of Bungie’s arrogance) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption"

you got to be kidding me (By default of William Usher's arrogance)

    # of players doesnt make the game good,

the higher the number of players after 8 makes the overall strategy in a game irrelevant, you just get a bunch of people running around trying to get the most kills

4v4 is the hotspot and always will, unless the 100s of people are trained by the US Marines to be organized and fight like a unit, give me a break. People would be quitting, dropping out, crap connections. It would just be completely gay.

anyways this argument is irrelevent because Metroid will not have multiplayer. Nintendo just doesnt have it in them. If they did, it would be so half-ass. They should just get Goldeneye of Perfect dark on their Virtual Console. Oh wait, microsoft owns RARE.

Plus the talent and ambition at Bungie is unparalleled. Good luck WIIPoS3

  1. xstr8synergyx Says:

The halo series already has any game beat shooting wise. And you think that just cause the wii has the nunchuck thats it is going to beat halo. PLEASE. Look at the facts and then make your decision!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. kkilla Says:

que the halo fanboys lol.. it doesnt matter if halo beats metroid they fail to mention that SSMB and a new mario will be released in this time frame(both which will sell the system like crazy) so halo has to go up again 3 multi million sellers.. good luck halo 3 youll need it lol

  1. Frickenfrag Says:

Please! The only game that will give Halo3 a run for it's money is Unreal Tournament 3. And that's only if Epic's claims of a vastly better porting from PC to console are realized. Halo is the Mac Daddy of all franchises and considering they have had all of this time to perfect this sequel it will continue to reign!

  1. whattawookie Says:

If you are going to compare a Halo game, you compare it only to other previous Halo games, because it is uncomparable. While it may not be hailed as the best shooter ever by everyone in the world, it is by the majority. But for those who have never played it, or maybe are not very good at it, it is a game to hate and to be compared to other run-of-the-mill pieces of crap that come out. Metroid may very well be a good game when it is released, and may do very well, but like others have said here, Bungie knows what they are doing. Why do you think they have delayed the dates of Halo 3 release and beta so many times? Because there will be no mistakes on this one like there was on Halo 2. Wii may have sold more consoles in it's opening than the other competitors, and Metroid may (though I highly doubt) outsell Halo 3 or even have a great run at the beginning, but at the end of the day, I have an xbox 360, and I will be cracking people in the skull playing Halo 3. I think many will agree.

  1. Pwnt Says:

"que the halo fanboys lol.. it doesnt matter if halo beats metroid they fail to mention that SSMB and a new mario will be released in this time frame(both which will sell the system like crazy) so halo has to go up again 3 multi million sellers.. good luck halo 3 youll need it lol"

Because, of course, it's not like both Halo: Combat Evolved AND Halo 2 outsold EVERY SINGLE GAMECUBE GAME

  1. Zolped Says:

Yeah this article is totally biased in Nintendo's favor. While I usually agree with that sorta thing I'm inclined to disagree with this article. Halo 3 will sweep MP3 in terms of multiplayer. Retro would have to seriously put some work into MP3's multiplayer before it would even be a competition! And I'm a Nintendo fan by the way, not a Halo fan.

Oh and by the way, MP3 will cost $49.99. Nintendo has said thousands of times that Wii titles would not exceeded $50.

  1. paul Says:

halo 3 is obviously the better game here. It is just like the time when metroid prime 2 and halo 2 came out. they were both compared and the winner was halo 2 by a landslide.

  1. kkilla Says:

o and u guys are also forgettin while ur stating halo outsold every gamecube game and is one of the best franchise haha.. still no one can ever take the king of all games from his throne as one of the best sellers(mario).. the first mario sold 40 million copies.. lets see halo put up dem numbers lol

  1. kkilla Says:

o wow halo 3 outsold every gamecube game is dat all u guys can come up with.. nintendo has multiple multimillion sellers..... xbox has halo and god of wars i love the 360 but come on yall.. mario zleda metroid ssmb and many more will gaurantee nintendo better sales than any other system this holiday... its not like they need help anyway since the wii is selling like hotcakes anyways lol

  1. Narcogen Says:

You're kidding us on the multiplayer, right?

A game that isn't even known to have any multiplayer mode whatsoever beats out the sequel to the game that had a two-year-long stranglehold on the top spot on Xbox Live, the only (as yet) fully realized console network gaming service, on the basis of what-- too low a player limit? Since when is there any connection whatsoever between the number of players in a match and the quality of the game experience? The nature of "next-gen multiplayer" has nothing to do with the number of players, unless you're talking about an MMO.

As for system limitations-- just because Halo 3 is on the more robust Xbox 360, compared to the Wii, does not mean that system resources are infinite. Bungie has likely decided that the resources that could be used to increase the player limit are better devoted to other things, and I'm inclined to think it's a good call. 8x8 matches often deteriorate into chaos as it is.

And... Citizen Zero? Are they still even making that? I don't recall hearing anything about it for over a year and a half now.

There's some arrogance in that analysis, to be sure. I'm just not sure it's from Bungie.

  1. Samus Says:

MEtroid shall win because it has mario zelda and othre mario games on its side

  1. Storm Says:

    In quote to Killa's comments

Who cares if no Halo game beats the amount of sales Mario made in the past lol

Actually the only reason why Mario made so many sales is because the choice's of your video games in the past were so freaken limited

Example: Should I buy Mario 3? or some dumb sidescroll shooter

By the way, I laugh at how MP3 beats Halo 3 at Multiplayer, like this article shouldn't even be here

Everyone knows Halo is the Multiplayer king

  1. eon0 Says:

First of all, Halo 3 DOES support tons of customizable features. Everything in the game's multiplayer is customizable right up to how "on fire" your spartan avatar is. Next, 16 player battles are perfect. Like Bungie has said, "It's hard to be the hero on a team of 64 people." You can't work as a team when there are more people than you can count, or view on screen for that matter. Besides, early previews of Metroid Prime have noted the clunky control problems that Red Steel and Far Cry suffered.

Furthermore, Halo 3 will allot the player tons of next-gen features like being able to record hours and hours of footage that can be viewed from any angle by any player in your party. Not to mention Halo's intense and deep storyline that is supported by 4 books and 2 other games that are rich with the plot's detail. When Metroid logs over 1,000,000,000 individual games online, we'll talk about multiplayer.

  1. wiiii Says:

metroid prime 3 is not a great game to but i say its different in the gameplay department yes its an alien shooter style game but it has its puzzles which make it more complex then halo if your willin to but ur brain in to puzzles then this game is good for you but minus the fights and all its not a great game it some what suks because the lack of intense fights but the boss battles make up for it the story line is diffrent then halo but almost to the same as any other alien series game

and finally halo is not the best franchise ever! look its Super Mario come on why look at his sales for 20 years Mario games have always sold past the 1 million mark making him the only franchise character to have so many platnium hits! and to the person who said halo and halo 2 sold more then all the gamecube games together lol! 1st off halo sold about over 3 million copies and halo 2 sold about over 8 million copies equalling a total of about over 12-13 million copies sold together compared to ssbm with about over 9 million sold and sm:sunshine with about over 4 million sold in comparison both systems sold exactly the same but nintendo has a clear victory with its mario install base plus paper mario sold over 1 million giving it that extra boost to leap over sales of both halo's. but what we do know is that mario and only mario is the only character in franchise ever never to be dismantled from his throne espically his sales record over all 193 million games sold to date on mario alone thats only games he appeared on smb, smb 2,3 smw, sm64,smss, smds. this are some of the games created from the man hisseld miyamoto! cant wait till super mario galaxy comes out!!!!!

  1. wiiii Says:

halo suks its over-rated the story line suks come on wow i never heard people fighting aliens! no thats old story news come on the driving is terrible the multiplayer is terrible the guns suck ass but the most i hate about halo is the gameplay its not great at all have u noticed only americans like this piece of shit look at japan there like oh man another retarded fps boring thats because japan knows what games to play not some overrated guy in some armor trying to save his army or some shit like that this halo theme story has been told over and over get it in many games u just gotta pay attention like for one its not close but its somewhat like it duke nukem guy goes and tries to save eath from aliens halo guy goes in armor to save whatever his saving from aliens end story

  1. SS_Android Says:

let me start this off, halo 3 probably will have better multi than mp3, and btw retard poser gamers, mph is a metroid game w/ awesome fps online multi, maybe not as good as halo 2, but if u can put mph multi in mp3, its somewhat competition. also to that person up there, god of war is not xbox, but he was right, halo may have outsold every gc game, but xbox only has 2 popular games that out beat gc sales and u know it, halo, and halo 2, sure u have fable, and marrowind, but windwaker and re4 and mario, and mkdd, and the mario parties outsold those with ease! the only other gr8 game on xbox is gow, but it might be a sleeper hit to some... dunno

o, btw, ARE U GUYS INSANE!?!?!?!?! halo has a CRAP, SHIT, FAGGOTLY GAY (jk), storyline, r u even serious?! o wow, some aliens come, theres another alien, u get a gun, o, the aliens attack, u shoot wowwww, metroid fusion pwns that ne day in story

also, in halo all u do is shoot every thing in sight, in mp3 u actually solve puzzles

ps as u can probably tell im a nintendo fan, but i still think halo will probably beet mp3 in multi

  1. noah Says:

Wow! What a bunch of Halo loverboys. Metroid owns Halo. Always has, always will.

  1. chief Says:

u metroid fanboys r all retarded halo will own metroid

And ss_android, in case u havent noticed, metroid's storyline is even crappier, gayer, and god knows what else.

  1. Somebody Says:

I think Metroid actually could beat Halo 3 in terms of multiplayer. I mean look at Gears of War (not god of wars, kkilla!). It wasn't even supposed to have multiplayer at first. It's multiplayer beats Halo 2's any day. MP3 could just as well be another Gears of War.

  1. chief Says:

in your dreams. metroid has never beat halo and never will. there is no way u can beat halo's multiplayer.

  1. Noko Says:

Halo and Metroid aren't even comparable, all you've done now is create a fight between platformer/puzzle (Metroid) fans and FPS/action/epic fans (Halo).
Even miyamoto himself stated that metroid is NOT a FPS game (there are elements, but that is all).
And besides, Halo has nothing on the Unreal franchise (on PC). In terms of FPS gameplay, you just can't beat a mouse for point and kill. Oh, and any halo game ported to PC (when they get round to it) has been lacluster in comparison with most.
This is why I own a PC and a Wii, the 360 and PS3 can't do anything a PC can't. But the Wii is something else entirely.

BOTH games will be great. BOTH games will sell millions. Stop beating each other up over it.
    Shame on you CB...

  1. chief Says:

I change my mind Metroid Prime 3 Corruption will own Halo 3 at Price,Gameplay features and Multiplayer

  1. Tib Says:

I have to say what a stupid compassion. Not only are both games very different from each other but its just inviting a fight between people who own a Wii and 360.

The game that will probably sell most will be Halo 3, you only have to look at Halo 2 sales figures and then Metroid primes 2 sale figures to know that.

  1. xbox Says:

    wiiii

how can you be so biased?
I can easily see from your post that you never played halo, and by the way where did you get those numbers I don't know about the other numbers but the 1st halo sold 6 million not 3 million

    on topic:
I haven't played any metroid game before but from what I heard metroid prime dind't have multiplayer and Metroid prime 2 only had support for 4 players and if you put more then 16 players in halo it just becomes to hectic to be halo know what i'm saying?

  1. chief (real one) Says:

hey wtf who used my screen name!?

  1. Trooper Says:

I have played both games. And I'm sorry to to say that Halo's story is extremely unoriginal. I mean how many games/books/movies have had the aliens come and try to wipe out humanity? To many to count. Metroid on the other hand has you trying to solve the mysteries of Phazon, the X-parasite and has you gunning down Space Pirates and native enemies on each planet. Oh, and it also has puzzles and a lot more interactivity with your environment. As is the case of the Prime games, you can scan every single enemy in the game to gain info. Can you do this in Halo? No. Does Halo have puzzles? No.
And like the Mr or Mrs Somebody said on March 11th Multiplayer hasn't been comfirmed or denied, and it could be up to something of Gears of War. And remember, Wii games now come on standard DVD disks, so they definitly be able to fit some excellent Multiplayer on the game

  1. UNSC KHart Says:

kkilla......Are you honestly trying to compare Halo and super mario? Super Mario got sales because it was basically the only game out 20 years ago....XBOX wasnt out then was it? And Nintendo has god awful games....and God of War is for playstation so seems like you know exactly what your talking about....and Halo 2 made multiplayer enjoy-able.....So Nintindo fan boys....Get an actual up to date game console comparable to XBOX 360 and then talk to me about it....Suck my WII

  1. nasty nas0ty wii gamers Says:

the halo story, sure the BASIC concept may be unoriginal, but the thing about Halo is there is soo much more to it than that.

There are the 4 books out now, another 2 to be written, the Halo bible, the story is huge, there is so much unknown information even now.

sure they had to tell the story in the games through essentially cutscenes etc BECAUSE it is an FPS, and the whole point of the game IS to shoot things

dont say Halo has a generic story because that is simply not the case

    p.s. Halo 3 FTW

  1. kevin Says:

i think metroid is best because it have borned since 1980 (more or less). it have more things than halo, and also i think halo copied from metroid...

  1. tman Says:

William Usher the one who wrote this article is just wanting all of us MS fanboys and Nintendo fanboys to take each other out for absolutly no reason.

Me, well I like both consols and companies. They both have there own great games. But come on now you can't compare a plateformer/puzzle game like Metroid 3 to and FPS/action/epic like Halo 3.

  1. Trooper Says:

UNSC KHart, I said "Gears of War" not God of War.

  1. kkilla Says:

UNSC KHart and storm are u guys idiots... the new super mario bros for the ds and mario sunshine sold a combine of 16 million copies and thoses are recent games within 2 years.. u guys talk about mario being 20 years old.. dat wat makes it even worst.. a 20 year old game outsells a game that recently came into the gaming business.. u guys talk about how nintendo makes crappy games.. thats why they have the best selling franchise.. and for all those who crticize haha.. look at the sales.. the wii is wooping both the 360 and the ps3 combined sales for february were 335 thousand units the the 360 228 and the ps3 127.. haha u fanboys need to get the facts before u criticize... and for that fanboy who said halo is the best selling franchize think again.. pokemon is.. 155 million.. has any franchice sold over 10 million in one country other than pokemon and mario? hell no and they will continue to cause cant no other company match nintendo brand of games and sales...

so UNSC KHart u want a up to date console to match the 360.. its the wii and the ds which arekicking the 360's ass lol... and lets not even talk about in japan 370 thousand units in one year dats pathectic.. the wii had dat on day one lol so 360 and halo fanboys its ok nintendo will pawn ur little halo

  1. Wii_Fan Says:

ok well halo 3 is an AMAZING game .. and even halo 1and2 but all u Xbox fans have to admit Metroid has a little bit of a chance c'mon .. its NINTENDO !! im sure they no wat there doing !! so wtv u ppl say. I say its a pretty close .. competition .. just go on www.gamespot.com .. metroid 1 is rated 9.7 and halo 1 is rated 9.7 too so its a tie .. now lets see Metroid 2 is rated 9.1 and halo is rated 9.4 so .. THERE BOTH AMAZING GAMES but there a better chance of halo wining cuz there is more halo fans the metroid fans .. but I SAY METROID IS THE BEST !!! I HAVE ALL OF THEM AND I HAVE HALO 1AND2 .. and i say metroid has a MUCH better story !! SO GO METROID so FK all of u halo fans .. halo could suk it !!!!

  1. nile Says:

Halo is only popular in the US. Outside of it games like Half Life II are more popular. Metroid Prime 3 will rock.

  1. WindGunner Says:

Halo and Metroid are both awesome games. Halo will most likely beat Metroid as far as sells IF they release at the same time. No, Metroid Prime 3 will NOT have multiplayer, DROP THAT.
As for me? I'm getting both.
    Best of both worlds people.

  1. xenoside555 Says:

    Dear nintendo fanboys,

Halo is a franchize not a system. So stop comparing the wii system and all its games (metroid, mario, zelda, ect.) to the halo series. This article is metroid and metroid alone vs halo.......not halo vs wii. Metriod and halo are both great games but halo will ultimately win in sales because it comes in both hardcore and casual editions. Legendary being 129.99 and the regular edition 59.99......and somewhere in the middle for hardcore fans that aren't filthy rich 89.99 (i think) edition. Most of myfriends preordered the Legendary. In other words halo will sell hundredds of thosands of 129.99 copies and metroid will only sell 49.99 copies.

    Dear kkilla

slap yourself! what people are trying to say is while halo has been around for only 6-7 years mario has been around for 30 yrs. raking up sales. Mario has ran his corse as far as I'm concerned its the same thing over and over. Or its making him play sports. Alas i think he finaly ran out of sports to try out for. Whats next? Super Mario: Gymnastics? Sorry i'd rather not see a short fat man in a tight fitting red shirt and white tights doing backflips on a beam.

  1. killergreenbelt Says:

hahahahahaha, MP winning multiplayer over Halo? it's ridiculous! we don't even know if MP has multiplayer!!!just go to bungie.net and youll see (as of right now the no. of people online is 51,380 and thats on a week day!). this article was done by a nintendo fanboy...

  1. Captain Peanut Says:

ahahahahahahahha, MP better than Halo? thats just a whole ton of bull, MP SUKS |||||||| Halo is AWESOME

  1. MP3C will pwn Says:

Yeah i can see Halo killing in Sales,Great Graphics,Amazing online multiplayer. But That game just turns me off,Same of the old,and i expect halo 3 to live up to that standard.Atleast in Metroid theres plot twists, and actual bosslike figures.Metroid Completely kills in gameplay and storyline.graphics Halo probably will win not by much so I say.Overall I still say Metroid Rocks has rocked and will continue to rock till the Chozo Say no.

  1. Ru5tY_01 Says:

What are you all talking about!!!!!
METROID PRIME 3 is going to be the greatest FPS of all time, halo 3 doesn't even scratch the surface on the greatness of METROID. In every single aspect of the game METROID PRIME 3 beats halo 3 hands down!!!

    NINTENDO FOREVER!!!!!!

  1. pixelsword Says:

Don't write off Nintendo so fast, nor dismiss the 360, and also don't forget...

There's possibly one other exclusive game in the mix that no one is considering (possibly because it's never been seen LOL!) Killzone from the PS3 (talk about interjecting an unwanted piece into a conversation) is the wildcard in terms of gameplay, graphics and release date. Why did I even bring up Killzone or PS3? Because of the points that were brought up in the article...

    1. Price:

Face it, The Wii wins if it can keep the price around $40, not $60. Why? Halo is going to be so expensive while it appears the gameplay will be equally short as Halo 2. Metroid gameplay has never been short: it's safe to say that the Metroid franchise has always been one long adventure after the other (Yes, I'm a Metroid fan here) Here's where the wildcard comes in: PS3 games are sticking around the $60 mark and as of now there's no indication that Killzone will be above that mark. If Metroid goes to the market at the same cost or $10 less, people will say "for $10 more I get this or that" Not to say that Metroid can't beat Halo 3 or Killzone on other factors.

    2. Gameplay features

To me, it's anyone's guess. Killzone is an unknown right now, so they aren't even counted... bottom of the pile. I would put Metroid on the top of this list because Halo's features aren't new at all in many ways. Their spike grenade copies Resistance's grenade, so that's not new wheras Metroid's Wii control is very different and will really stretch the limits on Wii control I think. interaction with the A.I. will make all of the difference between all three games and you don't need great graphics to achieve that. And that's another thing that no one is counting: graphics. Now this is a sticky one here since 360's gamers are expecting games to follow this paragon called Gears of War, but the Wii may have an advantage: if it even comes close to Halo 3's beta, it will be declared a winner in the eyes of most Wii gamers, and even some 360 gamers. Killzone is again an unknown, but from varying reports it sounds like they may be attempting to one-up the Unreal engine, but that's all in the wash until July.

    3. Multiplayer

Off the bat Halo 3 wins, as of the three no other one has confirmed reports of Multiplayer or numbers. Yes it's sixteen, but it's still an GIVEN NUMBER. To assume Metroid would give 24 players is also assuming Metroid could give 24 players, and that's not acceptable, since Nintendo never gave any numbers at all. But if you say more numbers do not make a difference in gameplay, I'm sorry you're wrong. I play (among other games) Resistance on the PS3 and I tell you, size matters. Having a bumrush of 20 guys coming into an area is very exciting and sometimes will literaly have you panic for your life. I remember when I was playing capture the flag (40 player) and running from twelve people shooting at me with Augers (look it up) and machine-guns. Having escaped and score against a slew of people is a rush to behold. Numbers in multiplayer does make a difference for flanking ability, splitting up, and a straight bullet-blitz.

Some people love the contenders, and others love the knockout punch, but I love the fight, to see the well-oiled machines in action; and this fall may be the best slugfest of all.

  1. wii60 Says:

Why did Halo 1 and 2 outsell any GC game?
Halo is great, probably one off the best games ever, but i dont think it would have had as much sales as they have if it werent for xbox live.
Although most people wont belive this but most Halo games are copies, which run on a chipped Xbox, Iv got a bout 10 mates who own a Xbox and I am an ex x - box owner, that makes 11 people and out off these 11 people Id say 4 off us owned chipped Xbox's and ofcourse the 4 people with the chipped Xbox's would have Halo.

But to the point, Metroid has great gameplay as it is and im sure using the wii remote and nunchuk would give a better experience and allow more free movement improving the gameplay from the excellant gameplay that Metroid players have previously ordered.
Halo, dont ge me started, i remember being round my mates party and we playing 4 player Halo (ahh the good days) IT WAS BRILLIANT, i remmber allways hiding in the corner with the other player i teamed up (we cheat xD), metroid you can change into a ball, Halo you can ride vehicles, halo laods off weapons and laods off tactics you can use, story mode great almost perfect.

I aint going ot pick any over the two but i would love it if both Nintendo and Microsoft kept the main aspects off the game similiar (both games rock in their own column) :D

  1. ??? Says:

I am definately getting both. Thyey both simply look amazing. Ahh, the luxury of having both Wii and 360.

  1. Halo will fail Says:

Considering that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption will be released on August 20, 2007 in North America, this gives the game a nearly 2 1/2 month jump on Halo 3. This is for good reason. Nintendo is not stupid, they know that dumbass people would automatically compare Metroid Prime 3 to Halo 3 as soon as it came out. Luckily, this is not the case, as Corruption has the jump on Halo 3. Halo 3 is going to be compared to Metroid this time around. Metroid Prime 3: Corrution will be the start of a revolutionary phase in home console fps shooter, fps adventure, gaming exceedingly when it first hits shelves and exceedingly in years to come, as well.

It's the best thing in the world to learn from past mistakes and Nintendo has done just that. Halo 2 had a better launch than Prime 2, but Halo fanboys should have known that Nintendo was smarter to not make the same mistake twice.

  1. felix26 Says:

I disagree with two of the comparisons. First, I think that the gameplay of Metroid P. will be better than that of Halo. Using the Wii remote beats the xbox controller by far. I also agree with the multiplayer. You cannot compare Halo's multiplayer to one of a game that might not have multiplayer. And after player the multiplayer mode of Metroid Prime 2, I think Halo beats Metroid in that catagory.

Personally, I think Metroid Prime will be better, but that's just my oppinion.

  1. Zodiac X9 Says:

Look first of all the gameplay of Metroid is way better than Halo. Wii remote beats the x box controller. Multiplayer Halo wins this one. 16 players? come on why so many i don't get it ( so it could be more exciting) that's weird. Sorry but im a NINTENDO fan. Numbers about how many games halo sold... well... people say it sold this many this this and that do you really know how many it sold. Why does halo have to make too many editions? why not just make one with everything. Now the only reason the x box is going on is because of halo. Ill bet that if they didn't even make halo x box wouldn't be that good. Now Don't compare Halo to classic games like mario, legend of zelda, and metroid because before the games were really basic and they were good in their time. ( If you know about programming you would know the difference). if you made a halo game like the mario style you can't compare because first of all halo would be 2d not 3d like it is today and mario has been around for a really long time. you cant compare halo to classic games because halo was not even out at that time. now the story in halo, halo2 and halo3 its kind of the same aliens and people, why not something new... the only thing you do is shoot shoot and shoot. It won't make you think. Metroid something different, out of the ordinary, story is way better. Now lets see... have you played metroid to start saying sh** about it. Some people here haven't. Ill bet that a lot of people here that play halo was their first game or they just started playing. You would know which is a good game if you had played since you were small/young. Anyways lets not get out of the topic/subject Halo fans are going to buy halo and metroid are going to buy metroid and some both. and look halo is been out for this generation and metroid for the old school gamers and some from this generation. The thing is that i think that metroid is going to be better not because im a fan, its because of the gameplay.

  1. Random gamer Says:

Let's just wait and see... <_< >_> Hmm...

  1. recon-roger Says:

though i'm a wii owner, i know that halo 3 will beat out metroid just because of how well the previous ones have done, and since a lot of nintendo owners are younger, they dont seem as interested in the metroid series. online multiplayer has been said to not be included in metroid prime 3, so halo 3 wins the multiplayer, but i think the single player would probably be better in metroid prime because it will definately last longer than in halo3. like i said, halo 3 will sell a lot more than metroid prime 3, but that shouldn't bother any nintendo wii owner, just be proud that the wii is destroying the 360 in console sales according to fortune magazine.

  1. annihilator Says:

samus is going to stun master ceif's balls with the annihilator beam and then have fanta and blow up the prienss with a scropion tank ya...........................uh fanta rules?????????

  1. Chris Says:

All you Halo fans are completely insane. All you guys care about is multiplayer this and multiplayer that. I'll admit that Halo may have a much better story line then Metroid, but I definately think that the controls for metroid are much better and the storyline is a lot easier to understand even if it is not as good as Metroids. Finally, I believe that Metroid appeals to more audiences because of it's rating. I mean come on, in both of these games all ur doing is blowing up aliens and trying to save the world. That definatley merits a "T" rating for Halo. And if people don't agree with that then Metroid should definately have an "M" rating b/c they are both pretty much the same.

  1. Devinchi Says:

i find it difficult to compare these 2 games, as they both accell in different departments. while halo 3 has exceptional multiplayer modes, metroid prime 3 has it beat in single player mode with a better story and longer adventure. (by the way, it has been confirmed that metroid will have no multiplayer) As for the action, master chief fights wave after wave of covenant armies, while samus blasts beefed up bosses that are 20 times her size. Being a proud owner of a Wii, MP3 is on my wsh list, but halo 3 is still a formidable game.

  1. mat Says:

you guys are gay i have the game metroid prime 3 ... its sick and rated 9.8 oout of 10 halo 3 will be sick also i will get that game but the metroid is a lil bbit better couse of wiimote and nunchuk movmet that why

no metroid is not online or multiplayer

  1. AFI rulz Says:

i think metroid prime 3 is beter only if it has a online multi player feature

    halo 3 is all hype...

  1. haha Says:

Honestly, halo 3 fanboys are just clinging on to their obsolete xbox 360s and swearing at us wii-owners like crazy. It doesn't take a genius to realize that the wii-mote/nun-chuck combo is infinitely superior to the stone-age controllers that microsoft still uses. Its not our fault you were too afraid to try something new, or too stupid to realize it's better. in the xbox 3 or whatever they come up with, they'll undoubtedly rip-off the wii-mote and you guys can feel safe because microsoft supports it, so it must be okay.

  1. Teer M Says:

man i dont like halo but damn this is crazy metroid over halo 3 there nuts i would pick halo any day

  1. umm Says:

Why are people all up in arms about Metroid beating Halo in multiplayer? It's a joke, holy smokes. Metroid has never been multiplayer, and won't be. There can only be one Samus Aran. Halo 3 is pretty intense, but I've loved Metroid since the beginning. It's going to be hard to shake me from that opinion. Usher was right, the controls for Metroid just seem to make sense, it feels like a more natural way to play. I say Nintendo did a kickass job with Metroid considering the Wii console is inferior in power to the 360. Sure all of the Halos were great games, but Metroid has a 20 year legacy. There will not be new Halo games 20 years from now, mark my words. Oh yea and Metroid has a heroine... that's pretty rare in video games, and it's always nice to see a female main character kicking alien ass.

  1. Alex Says:

Halo is okay... Halo 1 sucked, Halo 2 got better, and Halo 3 is pretty fun.
But Metroid is a much better franchise, which has more than just a lot of gun's, and a few vehicles... and it most definately has a better storyline.
So all in all Metroid is way better. I also feel that Round 2 was incredibly biased...

"Halo 3, alternatively, has the Mongoose, has the Spartan laser, has the new Brute weapons, and...well...it’s Halo."

That is the most biased part of that whole round... especially saying... 'And...well...it's Halo' that's so bad. So all in all, is you don't count the biased round... Metroid wins.

  1. Seph Says:

well both have victories in their respective fields. Halo is a first person shooter giant that appeals to many for its sensless war violence and near future settings (I personaly like that aspect, bring the violence!!!). Metroid on the other hand has a more artistic and far off story that to me is simply more in depth and more interesting (dude GF marine war game would be awsome). Both games have great controls and gameplay and offer different options, I love Halo's moulti weapon and very realostic combat, while i love Samus' arm cannon weapons and interesting puzzels the metroid series offers. I personaly see metroid having the more interesting environments, with the four plannets that are so similar yet so different from earth, halo is more of a bunch of steel plated bases and earth looking battlefields. many people also regect metroid 'cuz Samus is a chick, strange huh? over all I'd say a draw because they are both very different.

  1. WiiwillWiiwilllrockyou Says:

Are you kidding me? Metroid Prime has got nothing on Halo 3 at the least. Graphics, gameplay, storyline, Halo 3 has it all. Besides, the only Wii game considered an equal to Halo 3 is Super Smash Bros Brawl, these two franchises being the best of them all. Even though i own Corruption, I'm going to have to go with Halo 3 definitely

  1. Xbox and WII Says:

I am a fan of all games that are great, Halo is a great game but Metroid is an even better game. Yes Halo is next generation, has 3 good games under its belt, but how many great games in different plat form does Metroid has?, Metroid has conquer both the handheld and the platform before Halo was a dream in a programmer sketching book. Don’t get me wrong I love Halo and own Two Xbox and Xbox 360 for Multy-player action, Halo has a well written story and good game play, but Metroid had and excellent story when story telling was the games selling point due to the graphic constrains, now and day you cam make a game with no story but the best graphics. Besides, who can forget the moment when the player found out that Samus was a chick? Have we not seen Samus evolved to the hot chick in the 0 outfit? It’s a tough choice but Metroid has way too many innovations and game play than Halo 3. I have spent a considerable amount of time playing The new Metroid than trying to finish Halo 3. (single player Metroid, multy player action Halo 3)

  1. Jimmie Says:

WTF! dude halo OWNS mp3. the story line is one of the best it doesnt suck at all. It seems stu[id when you think about what your actually fighting. but in the end the story line.. the guns.. the intensity its all better than mp3.

HALO 3 multiplayer 0wnz mp3's btw.. this site it stupid for posting thay halo rank was 9.5... so was mp3's.. but still a lot of people prefer halo. its story= way better than mp3's

    HALO 3 FTW!! FTW!!! FTW!!!

  1. Cat Biscuit Says:

I played both Halo and Metroid prime. Halo was extremely easy to complete and did not need any knowledge at all to finish the game. Metroid Prime on the other hand required a lot of thinking. Metroid is more like a Puzzle/ strategy game instead of a shooter. I prefer Metroid because it is much more than just sci-fiction warfare.

the only thing that disappointed me about Metroid prime 3 is THERE IS NO MULTIPLAYER.

Now, the point i am trying to make is that the METROID PRIME SERIES ARE WAY BETTER THAN THE HALO SERIES

  1. Logan Says:

"Everyone knows Halo is the Multiplayer king"

O.K all you freaking Halo fans just shut the hell up already, i've heard enough of this bull**** saying that Halo's the king of multiplayer, look at Half life, i've seen more servers on that then halo, yes halo may have the high end graphics and the woopy do weapons.

but when it comes right down to it, look at the modifications of half life 1 and half life 2... Hell even look at Unreal tournament and its series, there have been more mods that have had great successes then halos mods and even then so there are people making mods for metroid on halo just to give it the nintendo feel.

i love how you bash down nintendo so much just because they dont want to go multiplayer, because there are problems with sustaining connections that dont suck to give players an uncanny advantages let alone the exploiters and hackers that will join and cheat just to get a good laugh out of it.

If you seriously want to keep saying how great the game is why dont you just go back to the original "GRAND"Dadies of FPS's like Doom 1 or even Wolfenstein, play that for a few minutes and let it sink in, halo is the same as those you just walk around killing things but wow... "Its got better graphics" who gives a shit... by and by all FPS's have their "run and gun" modes that halo has surprising yet again used to its fullest and tried to go higher... but no you cannot go higher in it at all..

im just sick of hearing it all from you guys.. honestly just get a life and start doing something better then gaming!

Note: im not trying to flame you all but im just sick of it from school from the net even from my neighbors

  1. BRAD Says:

ffs whoever thinks halo 3 is awesome is stuipid as f*&k there is no difference between halo 2 and halo 3 similiar weapons similiar gameplay where as metroid has all new gameplay metroid prime three releases a new era of gameplay unlike halo 3 which is the same old boring game which is like every other fps.

  1. Jorj360 Says:

    I forgot to mention.....
    MULTIPLAYER
Well, um, with 16+ players, Halo3 wipes the floor with mp3.

  1. RANDOMguy Says:

truth is halo pwns with multiplayer but metroid has been doing the alien shotting for AGES but if i were to give these games ratings, i'll give halo3 I DONT CARE/10 and Metroid Prime 3 I DONT CARE/10 because I DONT CARE. Im more of a mixed video gamer fan rather than a nintendo or halo fanboy because I DONT CCCCCCCCAAAAAAAARRRRRRREEEEEE!!!!!!!!

  1. grimlock Says:

Halo 1 was a complete classic along side with Metroid Prime, and thought to my self FPS will never top these two. Halo 2 was nothing special, new guns, new maps and a much more corny and dragged out storyline. Halo 3 was the most over hyped FPS in history, it didn't meet my expectations, it certainly isn't the best game, and it should never ever win GOTY, Bioshock should stomp all over that over-hyped pos. I have all achievements and have completed every aspect of the game, just to shut my friends up. The story was just crap, lost interest on the 30 mins. The only thing that is worth spending time would be the multiplayer, but I didn't buy a game just for multiplayer. As for the final boss battle... it was downright retarded, any dim witted console gamer could of beaten this.

Metroid Series in the other hand is just a concealed package of awesome. Never got bored in any part of the game, there was always something challenging, especially the boss battles. This would be the best thing since the coming of Jesus. Any half decent gamer would agree with me.

    Overall, Metroid > Halo

  1. Troof Says:

To those who throw sales around? You're idiots. Sales don't mean fuck all! Example? Okami VS. The Incredibles: I think we all know which is the better game in terms of originality, how engaging it is etc. But which sold more? You know the answer. The worse one. By no means am I saying Halo sucks, in fact, it's a brilliant game. But let's face it was it revolutionary? No, in my opinion. And don't say the multiplayer was revolutionary, because we all know they essentially took the Goldeneye multiplayer style, and added bigger levels, vehicles, and more players. Whoop-de-friggin'-doo! Metroid on the other hand was a lovingly crafted game that turned the traditional FPS genre on it's head. Not to mention the immense detail and backstory that was crammed into every inch, (as evidenced by scanning). I'm no fanboy, but Metroid pleased me more. It was hair-rippingly harder in my opinion too.

But on the flipside, Halo does what it does extremely well. You can't actually compare these two games to begin with. Metroid Prime was designed for FPS haters like me. With Halo being the more traditional experience.

  1. Luis Fretes Says:

Halo has been always be over hyped. The control is pitiful, the graphics aren't anything for such a game console, the sound isn't nice. Overall, it's just that, and overall game with a lot of hype.

Give me Metroid Prime 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Haze or Crysis any day of the week.

  1. [HK]Silent. Says:

im a fan of both halo and metroid but wow......mp3 doesnt even got multi plater wtf!...how does mp3 win that....and wtf is up with it "only" supports 16....are you guys fucktards are what!?!?!?!?!?!?!? since when does number of players got to do with how good multiplayer is>?<, you guys are stupid....i am a pro at halo pc...and sorry to say 16 people is plenty....thats all halo needs is 24 people nadeing and noob killin that would be hell so stfu cause you dont know anything r-tards.....i set a score of 133kills and 23deaths and 1 flag return in halo pc...and play halo all the time, i think i know what im talking about when it goes to halo online multiplayer, and if 16 players sucked why would there be so many people play halo online!?!?!!?!?!?!? jeeze learn about what games you are comparing beofore posting your gay review!

  1. Jason Says:

What do you mean metroid wins multiplayer? Metroid Prime 3 doesnt have multiplayer plus halo has some of the best multiplayer I've ever seen.

  1. Played Both! Says:

"I HAVE played bith and all in the serires. They're both good, but Metrod's innovation, trading, bonuses, and multiplayer is AESOME!!!, ... --- IT KICKS Halo's ASS!"

  1. Zax Says:

"I HAVE played both; they're both really good games. However, Metroid's innovations and weapons, including schemes KICKS Halo's ASS!"

  1. haloid fan Says:

i get bored of just shooting in halo3 and start playing mp3 but when a puzzle frustrates me i play halo3 i think multi player is the only diffrence ps (metroid has better story line)HALOID 4 EVER

  1. ryan Says:

well ur arguement is rather illogical when u say that metriod beets halo in multiplayer modes mp3c has no multiplayer mode i own it i know and agian there is no real way to compare the two games because they are in completly diffrant styes of game play and to cut halo down becuase u say it is not inovative enough is just stupid bungee got it right the first time that is why not much has changed and metriod just agrivated people like me who wated for prime 3 as a game cube release realy it was worth the wait. but u can not compare the two great games of our time

  1. ryan Says:

and i also see that this site seems to have some grudge against halo
