Activision wanted Modern Warfare 2 to have the biggest entertainment launch ever and according to their internal data, they've succeeded. They racked up $310 million in sales in just the US and UK in the first 24 hours.

Approximately 4.7 million copies were sold in those two countries on November 10th. To give you a basis of comparison, Grand Theft Auto IV sold 3.6 million copies on its first day. True, GTA IV was initially only released for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but I sorta doubt that the 1 million plus gap in sales between the game is entirely due to Modern Warfare 2's PC version. Steam, the only digital PC games store carrying MW2, didn't begin selling it until today.
