Modern Warfare 4 Website Held Hostage

If Infinity Ward keeps making Modern Warfare games every other year, we won't see Modern Warfare 4 until 2013. In anticipation of this sequel, a group of gamers has grabbed the domain modernwarfare4.com and is holding it hostage in exchange for a free copy of the game.

If you head over to the site, you'll find a short note (via Spong) written by a member of The ZiiP Gaming Community:
If you are reading this, you may well be the web administrator for Infinity Ward.

If you are, there is a chance that you may well require this domain. Don't worry, you can have it - in exchange for a little 'good will gesture' for the little gaming community that owns this domain and has been playing your games for years.

What we'd like is a copy of the game that this domain would be used for, - one copy for each and every member of our gaming community.

Well, it's pretty inexpensive to claim a domain name so I suppose the risk:reward ratio is pretty favorable here. It costs around $10 a year to hold a domain while copies of Modern Warfare 4 will cost at least $60 a piece. Unfortunately, Activision and Infinity Ward have four years to think of a perfectly good alternative URL for the game. For example, no one's snagged modernwarfare4.net yet. Considering the Modern Warfare games are still part of the Call of Duty series, the franchise's main website at CallofDuty.com would serve Activision/Infinity Ward's purposes just fine, too.
