Mortal Kombat Adds DC Characters To The Fight It’s official, Midway is bringing together Mortal Kombat and DC Universe for a clash of the costumes. Instead of a full fledged Mortal Kombat 8, Executive Producer Ed Boon revealed the addition of Batman and Superman as well as several unexpected tweaks to the franchise.

Boon announced that due to the introduction of DC Comic characters, blood and gore, the foundation of what has been at the core of Mortal Kombat, is going to be significantly lessened. Tapered down to the point where fatalities now will only be a faint memory. This assuming because DC would prefer that Batman not become Headless-Man.

Two new fighting mechanics, Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat, were also announced. Freefall Kombat has characters fighting on multi-tiered stages as they, get this, freefall toward the ground. The debut trailer shows Batman and Sub-Zero brawling as they break through a stone wall and fight mid-air. Klose Kombat allows Midway to input more complex grabs and also enables characters to tear each other’s clothing. I believe it’s safe to expect countless hours of Kitana versus Mileena.

“The DC Universe characters are some of the most popular and enduring characters in the world,” Boon says. “By combing them with the Mortal Kombat mythology, all new gameplay modes and features, plus a completely unique storyline crafted by top comic writers, players will now be able to answer the question: what would happen if Batman fought Sub-Zero?”

We’ll find out in the fall when the game releases on PS3 and Xbox 360.
