Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment finally announced their Mortal Kombat reboot today. It's called simply Mortal Kombat and is being developed by NetherRealm Studios under the leadership of series creator Ed Boon.

Unlike the Teen-rated Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe from 2008, the new MK revels in its gore. It will bring back "Fatalities," the bloody moves that you can use to finish off your opponent at the end of a fight. The trailer below gives a brief glimpse at some of these finishers.

In addition to a single-player story mode and standard 1v1 duels, the game will feature several new game types. Two players can form a tag team and fight against A.I. in a Co-op Arcade mode. Alternately, they can compete against another team of players online.

The reboot is being prepared for a PS3 and Xbox 360 release. It's expected to arrive in 2011.
