Mushroom Men, E.I.E.I.O, DS And Wii Bond Like Never Before For whatever reason, the original Xbox seemed to get some of the most eccentric, most overlooked games out on the market, from Stubbs The Zombie to the last of the Oddworld titles. Now it looks like the Nintendo faithful are finally getting the type of games that were probably thought up in the parking lot of a Dave Matthews concert, such as the Wii/Nintendo DS action/adventure Mushroom Men.

Here’s the premise: a comet passes over, leaving a “strange green dust” in its wake that causes “mushrooms, cacti, kudzu, and other formerly-normal plants” to gain consciousness. Once that happens, the fungi form three tribes: Bolete, Amanita, and Morel. From there, they just go straight up Hutu on each other.

The war underway, you take control of one of the Bolete soldiers. Using weapons that you'll make out of garbage, you'll have to ensure that the Boletes are still standing when the spores settle.

The teaser, below, while not appearing to feature in-game footage, does show concept art that, at the very least, looks incredible. And just consider that the last time the video game industry took a shot at making mushrooms look cool was Nintendo's Toad.

Get ready for 'shroom season sometime this fall.

Also, for anyone living around Santa Monica, CA, you may even get a chance to try Mushroom Men out for yourself at the Expo for Interactive Entertainment, Independent and Original. E.I.E.I.O. runs from July 11th to the 13th at the Hotel California. (For anyone who earnestly just thought about how great a band The Eagles are after hearing the words "Hotel California," please, put everything on hold. Call every one of your friends. Ask them if they honestly like you. Now, be ready because they're going to say something like, "Well, no, not really. I'm just nice to you because you're like, not a complete dick to people." Then, ask why they don't like you. Once they answer that, you'll finally realize how big of a hindrance The Eagles have been all these years. You then may be ready to admit that they suck so much that they make vacuums look like hair dryers. To you and your loved ones, I say, "You're welcome.")

Sponsored by Gamecock Media, E.I.E.I.O. will be featuring the indy video game developer’s list of forthcoming eccentric offerings. Plus, they’ll be handing out “Gamecock suckers.” Let’s see Electronic Arts even try to rival that.

Hahaha nice article Brian, I too loved the awesome games no one ever heard of on xbox. Some Favs of mine were Otogi, Armed and Dangerous, Oddworld Stanger (the first half is semi-boring but the 2nd half is a tour de force,) and Breakdown. Stubbs was alright, seemed a bit thin for $50, but that's just my taste I guess. I didn't care much though, I bought it just because I wanted to support original games.

This article should be renamed Parenthesis: Beyond.

Mushroom Men! Why do you have me suffer through concept art. I already love you for bringing the Oddworld spirit back. (If the Oddworld Game didn't have Abe it sucked. Oh, yeah and Fangus, where are you. You are the Stranger that is true Oddworld. Mystic Forces vs. Industry people. Anyway...) This title has potential. I always root for Nintendo. They are the heart and soul of games and without them there wouldn't be a final fantasy, metal gear, or I don't know everyone. Hell, Nintendo even gave Sonic and Crash a second chance. Everything that I have read on this game makes me glad there are people out their that don't spent millions putting graphical enhance, poop story FPS games. Mushroom Men, I will reserve you and see you on the front lines. Maybe the Spores be with you!!!
