Epic Games and Microsoft obviously view Gears of War as a major franchise. A Gears of War panel at New York Comic Con gave us a glimpse of the future plans for the series.

"You will not be disappointed in the next ten years," said Josh Ortega, Gears of War's writer. "It's a ten-year plan. Gears is long-term. The lancer is the new lightsaber."

Specifics beyond that boast were tough to nail down. However, when asked whether Gears of War 2 would get single-player DLC, Ortega had this to say: "Keep watching. You won't be disappointed."

It's not the most concrete statement ever uttered but Internet freak-outs have been caused by less.
