One of the more intriguing titles set for 2009 is Dante's Inferno, if only because...well, how do you make a game out of a book about a poet who tours Hell? According to the latest trailer, EA took a few liberties with the source material.

Dante is now apparently a muscle-bound knight who charges into Hell to kick some ass. As it turns out, Dante's the action figure Blend Games spotted at last weekend's Toy Fair: a medieval crusader who likes to show off his abs.

The trailer (exclusively on Eurogamer TV right now) shows him cleaving through packs of demonspawn and then taking on some larger baddies. Seems the game will ultimately be some God of War-esque third-person hack and slash. How much of this video is actual gameplay footage? Probably none of it. The art direction looks interesting, though. Those are some creepy-looking demons. There's probably a set of distinct enemies for each circle of Hell he progresses through.

The game's due out by the end of 2009. Wonder if we'll see the "Go to Hell" catchphrase repeated in every promotion until then.
