It's nice hearing more information about Diablo III, even if it's fake. That's why we're heartened to learn that Blizzard has announced a new class for Diablo III: the Archivist.

According to Blizzard, the archivists of Westmarch "wade into battle wielding tome and quill, armored not in ensorcelled plate or links of chain, but in the knowledge of generations past." One of the powers in an Archivist's mighty arsenal is Book Vision, a supernatural ability to see all written tomes in the area. He can also summon a Lorenado, a mighty tornado of books, to buffet his enemies.

When he runs out of mana, the Archivist will unleash the mightiest weapon of all: his wit. He has a vast supply of dialogue options to choose from, including phrases like "In my day, there were no colors" and "Look at this mole on my neck." The first phrase is most likely a reference to the Internet gripe-fest about the game's art direction, which is more colorful and less emo than previous installments.

The three "real" classes to be announced so far by Blizzard are the Barbarian, Wizard, and Witch Doctor. The full game will feature five player classes in all. A release date has yet to be announced.
