From the sound of things, at least Uwe Boll isn’t attached to this game-to-movie fiasco. That doesn’t mean this new movie won’t stink like a burning pile of leaves. Capcom, however, has a lot to do with this new Street Fighter movie production and will contribute whatever they can to make sure it’s not like the 1994 game-to-movie iteration.
It probably isn’t a surprise to most gamers that Capcom is making this new movie in respect of Street Fighter’s 20th anniversary. But a movie isn’t the only thing in the works. Capcom has a ton of new property across various mediums to pay tribute to one of their most prized (and money-making) franchises: Several new games, a new movie, and possibly a new television series, all based on Street Fighter IP. And since the “next-generation” of gaming has already started, it does seem to alleviate the lame-factor when taking into account that Street Fighter will at least look good on the new systems. Although, this is hoping they don’t use any of the movie's actors (or look alikes) for anything related to the 20th anniversary game. We don’t need history to repeat itself. Remember how awful and ridiculous that Street Fighter: The Movie Game was?
Hopefully Capcom will spare us any more of that.
Nevertheless, in an interview being featured on Game Daily, Capcom’s head of marketing, Charles Bellfield, gave readers some insight into the direction of Capcom’s new projects for Street Fighter. Specifically, his comments about the new movie are as follows: “What we're announcing here is a movie based around a character, so it gives more story line than the actual movie project in the past which was a general Street Fighter franchise. This is a far more character-based and story-based film that we're working with Hyde Park in developing. Chung Li is one of the main characters and she's one of the most popular characters in the U.S. and also appeals to the Western audience.” Bellfield continued on to say “We want to build a strong franchise successful in a different medium like movies, rather than just handing over our IP to other people to develop movie franchises.”
So at least Capcom doesn’t want to be like Eidos or Sega when it comes to game-to-movie crossovers. Charles confirmed this thinking avenue by further stating that... “ This is all about keeping the Street Fighter franchise true and authentic to the core consumer, but leveraging the understanding that this is a different medium and we do need other partners on board to deliver to this medium.”
In regards to other properties pertaining to the Street Fighter series, Charles only mentioned that Capcom “...can confirm that we have a multi-format strategy for Street Fighter, what, when, how and why we're not talking about. Anniversaries for key franchises are important milestones in the game industry. We have a 20th Anniversary of Street Fighter in 2008 and we'll be developing a number of properties around that for the anniversary."

Honestly this movie sounds great, but i think the best possible idea would be to create a mini series and air it just before the movie came out. They could do an episode on each character and just make the movie a killer fighting tournament. And the street fighter cast better pray that MvC2 never gets made into a movie because MSP and such would just own Ryu Ken Akuma like the noobs pick.
Chun Li is going to be Kristin Kreuk From smallville. Yes she is hot but she is not Asian and i am not going to see this movie. My coin will stay in my pocket!!! Hollywood is blind and is a money pupet!!
i hope this movie turns out to be WAAAAAY better than the first one. Because the cast for the first one was lame. If ur gonna get a decent cast for this movie make sure they at least look similar to the characters. And i hope since its based on Chun Li, that she has a big fight scene with Vega. Thats a must!! And maybe this time, Vega will actually look like himself.
I think its finally time they made a street fighter movie. I just hope that the film isnt all in english. and i really hope the actors all dont have perfect american accents. that would be too hollywoodish(for example if one of the characters is speaking to someone from they're home country they should be speaking in they're native toungue).
I`m happy with the idea of a new SF film but...Im Vega fan and I dont think the actor from the Black Eyed Peas suits as Vega.
Im very angry with that because always spanish are represented with south american actors (this guy is a kind of mulatto, incredible!!)
If they use that actor, I will not see that movie
the movie could be animation or actors, but i would prefer animation because you can do more. I think there should be more than one main character ,but have it mainly focus on Ken and Ryu.
If the producers and story writers cant figure out a decent storyline for the forthcoming sf movie, just go to google and read the sf game storyline.but ofcourse being hollywood, they are bound to give us crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey what about Grace Park From Battlestar Galactica To play Chun Li, I know she is of Korean Decent but she seems like a good option! Has anyone checked out Street fighter 4 on you tube, it looks nuts. Man i look forward to playing it. You know i have been playing this game since i was 12 years old back in 1992. Do any of you remember Jason Scott Lee who played Bruce Lee in Dragon the movie and also played the main chracter in time cop 2, That would be a good Ryu!! Or even Phillip Rhee who played in best of the best. Hell, why dont they just let us fans make the movie. Got to go, see ya.
I BEG OF U PLEASE OHHH PLEASE!!! LET THE STORY FOCUS ON RYU AND KEN, but if it is all gonna b about Chun Li a good story plot would let it be about a recuitment tornament where M. Bison actually comes to see this tornament and Chun Li uses this opportunity to bring him down and take revenge posing as a competitor (really undercover interpol agent) but a team up with Ryu and Ken As main characters is a sure thing to please the fans, i would have 2 agree on 1. no name actors who stay true to the characters 2. a trilogy is a good idea so that way we have more character focus and see how there lives run into eachother as the sequels go on 3. CGI, pronouncing the moves properly also music from the game yes it is ridiculous 2 see ppl throw balls of light at eachother but its the SF universe and the fans will thank u for it. 4.dont over do it with 2 many characters gives less time for character development u can introduce other characters in sequels lyk Xmen did and 5. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING RYU N KEN MUST B MAIN CHARACTERS
Wow we all think very similar thoughts ha ha ha, yep!! But guys please stop saying Jet Li should be Ryu, man the guy is ment to be pretty cut like a couple of posts back suggested. I would rather unknown actors that can realy fight instead of common faces. I think the Girl who played in So Close (chinese film) should be chun Li, her name is Shu Qi she is pretty nice and can fight too! The computer will handle the spinning bird kick im sure. Perhaps they should just get Tyson to play Balrog - Ha ha ha, its was ment to be him anyway and they could film him in prison ha ha ha, im sure he could use the money. Bison needs to be real big and real bad! Well dreaming is fun, i look forward to reading more of your great ideas! For the fans this should be made! And to the fans they should listen! See ya
Ok, first of all. Any hardcore SF fans that watched the first movie knew how bad the first movie sucked. I actually thought it was a parody to the game, a comedy that would fool the world into thinking it was the next best thing to Scary Movie. Then I later found out it was in actuality a movie to portray the game. I nearly puked. The story, the cast, the special effects, the cheesy one-liners, M. Bison. Ryu's amazing HADOKEN. etc, etc... PATHETIC. But I'll give you a break considering it was in 94. But here's some things first.
ITS A NEW AGE
After watching Sin City and 300, if you made a Street Fighter movie now, with real-life characters, the true storyline, CGI, man the movie will be a HUGE hit. Make it R-rated to spice it up too. Blood, Honor. Mix it up. Don't make it too realistic. It's not everyday a person throws a sonic boom and uses electricity from his body to fry people.
A LITTLE PET PEEVE
One thing that bothered me about the old movie was that the actor playing Ryu looked nothing like him. We get it, he's "asian" but we want resemblance. STICK to the original character's looks. In all honesty, Ryu, the actual character looks like he's half asian, considering his brown hair, so pick a character that closely resembles him in the game. The guy is f'n ripped and I want clean English too.
Ryu is the most beloved, popular character in the game. The majority loves Ryu. The original storyline is basically based off him. He's the hero. IT would be absolutely stupid to have any other character lead the main role. Guile, the main character for the original? Did they want to fail miserably, disappoint the fans, and commit suicide?
ALL IN ALL
We want a two and a half hour movie. A lot of action, all the characters, very good actors, CGI effects galore, I want a mixture between X-Men and Sin City, creating a blockbuster hit, (wishful thinking) that will wants the people craving for a sequel.
There was one line in the entire old movie that was actually humorous, which I don't want to hear from the audience when/if the new one comes out in movie theaters. When a truck loaded with explosives was about to crash into them, Zangief said, "QUICk change the channel!"
Just thought I would let Park JnYoung know van damme is belgian not french and I have some suggestions for cast
Van Damme-Vega(just dont give him anylines)
Dolph Lungdren-Guile
Zhang Zhiyi-Chun Li
Bob Sapp(MMA Fighter happens to know boxing)-Balrog
Tong Po-Sagat
Pretty much any sumo wrestler that speaks english-E.Honda
Wesley Snipes-DeeJay
Bruce Le (bruce lee look a like)-Fei long
Shin Koyomada(The Last Samurai)-Ryu
Keira Knightly-Cammy
Arnold Vosloo(The Mummy)-Dhalsim
Those are the only characters i can think of, for ken bison blanka and zangief im not sure but i hope they shop around and dont just pick the first person who walks in (Raul Julia anyone....*shudders*)
First and foremost, all the producers and directors of the jean-claude sf movie should be flogged (1000 lashes!) for ruining what would have been a major movie.Honestly even a kid would have delivered a better storyline. The movie had every ingedient of a razzie masterpiece.ill matched actors(e.honda from hawaii instead of being a strict never smiling disciplinarian),very lame special effects and horrifying-YES! HORRIFYING signature moves!(remember ken's shoryuken? how about Bison's Psycho crusher? not to mention Ryu's pathetic hadoken?).
I guess Capcom was so disgusted with the movie that had to bring about the SF animated movie (a way of apologizing to the fans of the video game.APOLOGY ACCEPTED).
In order to wipe away every trace of the first rotten movie, here are some tips
1.the producers and director should be TRUE and FAITHFUL fans of the SF universe.
2.get unknown actors to play the character roles(that way viewers will be completely immersed into the movie and cost of paying huge amounts of money to A-listers will be reduced).
3.characters should look exactly like the videogame counterpaths(straight to Guile's haircut).
4.the movie should follow the exact soryline of the video game
5.a japanese martial artist should handle the fighting choreography.
6.the movie should not be overstuffed with almost every character(just the relevant ones)
7.start of the art special effects.
8.oh yeah!...most importantly,Ryu should be the leading man.
With all this, you have yourself a Box office heavyweight(my opinion anyway)
To summarized about what everyone posted up so far
1-ryu and ken = main characters
2-chun li = martial artists hot asian chick
3-ORIGINAL street fighter storyline
4-CGI+the right characters = better than the first.
i really do hope the storyline for th emovie follows that of the orginal street fighter game. stay true to it. but of course hollywood always F things up.
I'm sorry, but someone a few posts down said he thinks Jean Claude should STILL play Guile? And Arnold Schwarzenegger should play Bison?!!
What're you kidding me?! Here's a better idea: get somebody who speaks English.
Stay true to the freakin classic. Guile, lived born raised in USA, with that distinctive haircut. And these characters have powers -- do u remember that sorry excuse for a ryu fireball in the first movie? Good God. It gave me nightmares.
You want this movie to be successful? Number 1: the right cast. Number 2 everything about it should scream nostalgia and faithfulness to the sf legend. From the backgrounds to settings to characters to even the music.
Dolph Lunngren - Guile
Jet Li - Ryu
Shui Ling ( crouchin tiger ) - Chun li
Holly Valance - Kammy
Wesley Snipes - Deejay
Clancy Brown (shawshank) / The Great Khali - M bison
Mike Tyson - Balrog
Yokozuna (WWF) - E Honda
Carlos Tevez .. LMAO - Blanka
Tong Po - Sagat
i like guile!!man his fashion and fighting style is the reason i play street fighter!!i hope they put him an important role in this film(hopefully can see him fighting zangief and sagat and performing somersault justice and sonic hurricane as finishing move!!), although ryu is the on e should be main charater!!^_^!!hope they dont mess up with the fashion and story line of each character!!!the art for the street fighter character in the capcom vs snk is the one they should follow!!
i do think you guys should make another street fighter movie !!! it would be tight ! i am a huge fan of sf i collect the comics , figures , posters ! my fav character is chun-li but i feel the main character should be ryu & make sure 2 make the guys big & buff & the girls hot!!!!!!
