Valve revealed today that the Sniper will be the next Team Fortress 2 to get new Achievements and unlockable weapons. The Sniper will be the fifth class to receive an update, the first four being the Medic, Pyro, Heavy, and Scout.

"It's actually shaping up to be the largest TF2 update yet, with multiple new maps and a bunch of gameplay tweaks," said the latest post on the TF2 Blog. In addition, new content will be released for all classes before the Sniper update goes live.

Valve also took a moment to reassure Xbox 360 owners that they're still working on releasing these class updates as one big bundle through Xbox Live. Thus far, only PC owners have received the updates. "If you're wondering what's taking so long, since the content is 'done' on the PC already, it's mostly been around fitting it all onto the XBox. The original version of TF2 in the Orange Box was very close to the XBox's memory limit, and all the additional TF2 content we've produced has pushed well beyond it. We've found a couple of nifty ways to get back a bunch of that memory, but it's turned out to be a lot of work, and that's what most of our time is being spent on."

No release date was provided for the Sniper update, which might be for the best because Valve's not really big on making release dates. The Xbox 360 update was supposed to hit Xbox Live at the end of 2008. Come to think of it, we were supposed to get news about Half-Life 2: Episode Three at the end of 2008, too.
