Nintendo has announced a release date for their special brand of chatroom, the Wii Speak Channel. Finally, everybody's dream of being able to communicate with your friends via the Wii and the Wii Microphone peripheral will finally come true.
The chat channel will release in North America on November 16th. For no additional charge, gamers who buy the $30 Wii microphone will be able to call their friends with their cell phones and tell them to get into their Wii so they can call each other.
According to Nintendo "Wii Speak also opens up a new world of social gameplay" by allowing players to chat with each other. That's strange, I could have sworn console people have been doing that for years with the Xbox. Seriously, Nintendo, this isn't anything big. The PS3's had chat rooms and nobody uses those as it is. At least Nintendo's finally coming around to the idea that people may want to talk while they play games together. Fingers crossed that it extends beyond Animal Crossing.
