Nintendo Gears Up For Holiday Sales

Tis the season to be merry, and what could be merrier than a bunch of deals, bundles and discounts coming out of the Nintendo camp? In honor of Thanksgiving, the Big N is offering up quite a few specials gamers might want to take note of, and most of these won’t even require you to set up a tent outside your nearest Best Buy in order to make good on it, either.

Whether you’re gaming on the Wii U or 3DS, Nintendo is serving up a heaping helping of post-Thanksgiving deliciousness guaranteed to make your time spent with family and friends far more entertaining. That is, of course, until someone beats grandma in a round of Wii Sports Club and starts cursing like a sailor, forever ruining the image of her as a sweet little old lady.

“This year, there is a dizzying amount of affordable Nintendo options for any holiday shopper looking to stock up on fun gifts for family and friends,” said Nintendo of America Executive VP of Sales and Marketing, Scott Moffitt. “And if there is ever a question of why shoppers should choose Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this holiday season, the answer is simple: Because it’s Nintendo.”

Bold words, Mr. Moffitt, but perhaps not just corporate chest beating. Both Nintendo consoles are doing well in the ole’ sales department now and, with games like Pokemon X/Y, A Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D World all recently launching, the holidays look to be bright for Nintendo fans, indeed.

So let’s take a look at some of those Thanksgiving deals, shall we?

First off, a Cobalt Blue 3DS bundle featuring Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon pre-installed on the consle will be available for $169.99 starting Nov. 28. Come Black Frday, both Walmart and Target will also have a few deals with Wally World offering up the Nintendo 2DS for just $99.99 and Target throwing out the 3DS XL for just $149.99.

For those of you paying attention to the eShop updates these past couple of weeks, you’ll remember that a sale highlighting various Nintendo characters has also been in rotation and, come Thanksgiving Thursday, that tradition will continue featuring “some of Nintendo’s most beloved characters.” No word yet on what the T-day theme will be, but my guess is that the character’s name might rhyme with “Scmario.”

Finally, there’s a little something for those of you in need of a new controller and, heck, why not throw in a game for good measure? Starting Dec. 2 (still technically “after Thanksgiving), you can pick up Nintendo Land for Wii U, complete with a Luigi-themed Wii Remote Plus controller, bundled together for $59.99.

It’s still early in the week yet, so we expect this to be the first of many announcements related to gaming discounts to come over the course of the next several days. Much like a Thanksgiving turkey, here’s hoping your wallet is properly stuffed in anticipation for all of these sales.
