Nintendo Sues Nyko Over Nunchuk Knockoff

In a swapping of roles, one of the big three console makers is suing someone for infringing on patents and all kinds of legal brouhaha. At least the story isn’t about how Nintendo supposedly stole something and now they can’t make Wii Remotes. No, this time around Nintendo is suing Nyko over their Karma wireless nunchuk controller.

In the suit Nintendo claims that Nyko’s product copies patented designs and interestingly enough infringes on trademark for the Nunchuk name and packaging. ”[It] wholly appropriates the novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller,'' he company said in the federal court complaint.

I’m intrigued on how that works since the word “nunchuk” generally refers to a weapon that a pizza lovin’ turtle with an affinity for orange uses. Perhaps capitalizing the word is how Nintendo got the trademark. In any case, Nintendo is seeking monetary compensation and the removal of the Nyko product from stores.
