PS2 Is Kicking Xbox 360's Butt, While PS3 Dies

PS2 Is Kicking Xbox 360's Butt, While PS3 Dies It’s no surprise that the PlayStation 3 hasn’t been a big hit. And obviously the huge price tag and lacking software lineup has been the prime cause of what looks like an early demise of Sony’s next-gen console. Surprisingly, though, the PS2 has managed to sell more units month-on-end than the Xbox 360.

Now common-sense might say that the PS2's cheaper price should enable it to shift more units than the bigger, flashier and more expensive Microsoft next-gen console. However, time and time again – even during the holiday season, which is the highest selling point of video game sales – the PS2 was the major console to come out on top.

Even during February, according to NPD analysts, the PS2 out-sold the Xbox 360's 228,000 units, with an impressive 295,000 units. The results were the same for all of 2006 and up through January, when the PS2 and Xbox 360 went head-to-head in stats. What’s funny, though, is that the PS2's decline in software sales has seen an annual drop of about 15%. And while that is drastic, it’s fairly expected. According to Next-gen Biz, Michael Patcher commented that “…The precipitous decline in PS2 software sales concerns us,”

Michael needs to be slapped. There's no reason to be concerned because there weren't a whole lot of hard hitting games gracing the PS2 during the period in which the 'concerning declines' take place. Also note, the prices on PS2 titles drop a lot faster now that the newer systems are out. But when the NPD surveys the sales from retailers for March and April, the PS2's sales should look pretty darn good with just a few games like God of War II and MLB The Show. That’s not including third-party support, which seems like it’s as stable as ever. Especially given that Liquid Games has now joined on as a budget-priced supporter of PC and PS2 gaming. In a recent press announcement, Oxygen’s CEO Jim Scott commented that... “Recent research indicates that $9.99 is only perceived as a “good” price point by consumers. We’ve always aimed to offer family gamers “great value” so we’re adapting our Liquid Games pricing accordingly”,

So while PS2 games get cheaper, and strangely sell more, PS3 just seems to be dying. While yes, Sony is doing a lot of good things with the PlayStation (2) brand, they don’t seem to have enough momentum – or any momentum for that matter – heading up the PlayStation 3. Instead, the PS3 is sitting on retailer shelves, collecting dust and telling tales of its manufacturing days to accompanying PSP units.

In fact, the PS3 has only moved 123,000 units in February. And that’s not just disappointing, that’s embarrassing for a brand spanking new, next-generation video game console. But there’s no reason to beat around any invisible bush – we all know that the PS3's price point and lacking software lineup is the reason it’s dying. Heck, I’d tell all my friends to purchase a PS3 simply for the PlayStation Home...if I knew they wouldn’t have to forfeit a car note, a mortgage, rent or food just to buy one. Conveniently, the PS3 is priced perfectly to interfere with things in life that are actually important...like bills or a college text book.

Eventually, though, the PS2's library of new games will dwindle in importance as 2008 nears, and Sony will actually have a problem on their hand. When the Xbox 360 and Wii are carrying heavy third-party exclusives for 2008, Sony is either going to have to have the PS3's software support shaped up, or they’ll have to be ready to slip out of the race altogether. Next year at this time, the PS2 will definitely not have the staying power it has right now. So it’ll be crucial for the PS3 to have games that at least justify its pricing. Otherwise, gamers will flock to either the Xbox 360 or Wii, which will surely drop in price come 2008.

  1. Spencer Says:

Ur so so very wrong about much of what you say.

    1. The system is new and the 360 didnt have launch games that were good when it came out nore do most when they come to the market.

    2. You talk about sales of a system PS3 is selling better than the PS2 did in the same time of there release's.

    3. You fail to realize that many games are coming out people are waiting for on the ps3 that have yet to be released. Hevanly Sword, Lair, Ninja Guidan, MGS4, Naugty dogs new game, GT5, GTA, Rac & Clank, DMC4, and many more and while some may not be exclusive to the ps3 dmc4 and and gta the games will help to grow an install base.

    4. Your not looking at the future only the present, PS3 is build for the long haul all PS brands are build for the long road ahead. Thats the reason your still talking about ps2 and even ps1 on the psp.

    5. Even though you may not know whats going to happen in the near future Sony does and with games like killzone coming out and others to follow as time goes on those extra 41 gigs will be needed in the near future and games will be on ps3 for the mear fact of space and grunt power of the PS3.

  1. Grover Says:

Well, another anti PS3 article. I find it interesting you don't compare the fact that the PS2 last year outsold the X360? For a next-gen machine, alone in the market for a year, to be outsold by an older machine? PS2 sold nearly 20 million.. X360 sold a paultry 8.9 million. Hrm.. lets have a look at some of the monthly sales for X360.. oh.. look!! they sold only 1 million worldwide.. from march to sept 2006?!! Compare this with current worldwide sales of PS3.. you are just being a classic PS3 basher. If you want to compare, compare them all.. silly little fanboys.

  1. Electric Hermit Says:

I think it's still too soon to say. Blu-ray could be decisive (either way). Little Big Planet and Home shouldn't be underestimated, as you imply in your article. And all those PS2 buyers aren't going to rush off and buy an XBox this year (nor probably a PS3, but they might feel some brand-loyalty next year when PS3's a bit cheaper and has more games).

It's a question of timing. Sony has the rest of 2007 to get a sufficient installed user base to keep exclusive developers interested, but can't afford to cut the price until it's sold a certain amount. It's catching up with Microsoft (vgchartz.com), but maybe not fast enough...

  1. Paul Says:

I'm in agreement with Spencer and Grover. You're article is blatantly biased, and you're ignoring a key factor in all of this "console" war nonsense: Sony has DEEP pockets. They can afford to take a hit, because they realize they're making an investment. The PS2 is still selling millions of consoles...I assure you most of the consumers purchasing these PS2's are not going to be buy another system for at least a year, if not 2. Think Christmas 2008. As has been preached by PS3 nay-sayers, Sony loses money each time a PS3 is sold because it costs so much to manufacture. What they fail to mention is that this is due to the fact that the components used are state of the art...actually state of the art, unlike so many systems in the past that, by the time they were actually released, we're already outdone by computers or other technologies. Sony has produced a system that has: A: Considerably more power than the 360 B: Over 5 times the storage space on a Blu Ray disc and C: Got it right the first time, because there have been very few PS3's to have any malfunction whatsoever, compared to the fairly percentage of 360's that had a variety of issues. Sony built a solid piece of hardware thats designed to last.
And that's where I cut to the chase and make my point. Sony's not worried about this year. Sony's not worried even about next year so much. Sony is concentrated, I think, on Christmas 2008, when game designers are able to truly utilize the cell processor (Which they haven't even scratched the SURFACE on), the Blu-Ray advantage enabled games, specifically RPG's to be almost ten times larger than those on the 360. (And don't try to say "they'll use multiple discs on the 360". Think of Oblivion on CD's...it's would never work, as will be the case with many PS3 games in a year or so.
The PS2 is STILL SELLING, meaning that Sony's install base is GROWING, and with more and more people owning a Sony system, in the next two years, they are much more likely to stick with Sony than move to the 360, if for no other reason than having already acquired a large library of PS2 games.
You say the Playstation 3 is dying...what you fail to realize is that it hasn't even HATCHED yet. And when it does, it's going to outsell the 360 by an even larger margin than it's predecessor outsold the X-box.
Oh, and for the record I own all three "next gen" systems, so while I may very much enjoy my 360, I'm well aware that the PS3 is going to stand head and shoulders above everyone else by Christmas 2008.

  1. Don Says:

There is nothing wrong with the PS3's launch games & they have more of them than the 360 did at this stage last year. It has some good & some great titles, I have TW PGA Tour, F1 Championship, Motorstorm & Resistance and they are all great, I couldn't be happier with them, what do you expect from a system that's only been out a few months.

Only a fool would be writing off the PS3 after such a short time, especially when it had a much better launch than the 360 did, in both the US & Europe, also the PS3's top selling launch game (Resistance) has outsold the 360's top selling launch game (perfect dark zero).

I will admit it is going to be a 3 horse race this time around & that's a good thing, it's a win, win situation for the gamer but to say the PS3 is dying this soon is just irresponsible, as time will prove.

As for the PS2, it is great value & sure people are going to snatch them up for their kids or for a second system, I still have mine sitting beside the PS3, expect it to be around for another 2 or 3 years.

  1. Erny Says:

Indeed Grover. As with all the fanatic sonybashers this example too fails to realise that it's way too soon to make any predictions. I think the agressive internet community fails to see the power of branding, and that a big part of the ps2 users now, will likely shift to ps3 in the future.

  1. bob Says:

I totally agree with Don. There isn't anything wrong with the ps3's launch line-up. As for the ps2 selling more than the ps3 and xbox, that's only because its much cheaper. I think that much more people will by the 360 and ps3 later in the year when they cost less.

  1. otakugamergt Says:

wake up sony fan boys... the problem with the PS3 is that the people behind it, is doing the same thing that you are doing... defending the PS3 catastrofic strategy... so, it's time to wake up and fece the reallity and find out solutions... (ps3 fanboy = bla, bla, bla)

  1. fenrir Says:

of course it's too soon to say the PS3 is dying... the problem is this is possible to happen, because of it's high price. there aren't many people who enter a shop and say "oh, why not buy the new PS3?". neither are they going to buy an Xbox360... on the contrary Wii and PS2 are mostly impulsive buys.

  1. Nate Says:

what the hell is everyone gettin their panties in a rut about? There is an entire friggin paragraph about how the ps2 is outselling the 360. Maybe you guys are all so overly defensive because actually watching Sony fail with the ps3 is scaring you and all you can do to feel better is deny it until you convince yourself it isnt happening.

thats the danger of being fanboys, if your console dies, you die with it.

  1. $tack$ Says:

    this article is beyond retarded.
lets look at the bluray issue-- hddvd is done plain and simple. If the fact that bluray is outselling hddvd right now has gone over your head, y not take alook at the movies being launched( exclusive to BD media) spiderman 3 and pirates of caribean. These 2 titles alone will kill hddvd. Lets not forget all the content which is also exclusive to bluray. as it stands bd's are outselling hddvd 4.5 to 1. Just look at the titles available on bluray and hddvd. As most of the market turns over to hidef .... dvds and hddvd will become obsolete as practical media. dvds will replace cd's in the general purpose of schematics.

next issue is the playstation brand. Thats right the BRAND. anyone forget why these systems are so well accepted? What is SONY? Insert GROVERS entire post here...........on the flipside of things the xbox came out later with more advanced hardware and still did not get a better grip on the industry. thats besides the point of more systemresources, better looking games and xblive. that original xbox system was dropped as soon as the xbox 1.5 came out. everything that M$ criticized about SONY's next gen strategy, M$ is now incorporating into a new and improved xbox1.8(ELITE system). everything except incorporating hddvd.....y u ask? M$ knows hddvd failed..........and so has the xbox1.8 in terms of next gen. xbox 1.8 is the NOW GEN. ps3 is true NEXT GEN.

potential for ps3 is outstanding. ps3 is stuffed with awesome hardware in one little package for a deal of a price. if you were to deck out premium and elite boxes like a ps3... you would pay about 100$ more. that still doesnt get you bluray or Cell Broadband Engine.

theres still plenty of things to come for the ps3 all in terms of firmware. people forget this.................but look att the psp when it was released an now look at it............THOSE aRE MAJOR CHANGES. ps3 is gonna be filled with features as well.

the wii is a fad... much like the atkins diet...itll pass. M$ is gonna slump down to 2nd or third by early 2009. You know wholl be at first.

  1. fenrir Says:

is it me or is this guy actually a fanboy? i don't get why someone would want to buy a premium and an elite Xbox... that'd be simply retard, dontcha think? O_o

  1. Jaydao Says:

The PS3 isn't going to die. Of course the PS2 is going to continue to be a strong seller based on price point/games available. The real battle starts this fall when both the Xbox and PS3 start putting out their top 1st party software, as well as all of the shared platform games, (GTA, Devil May Cry, etc.) I think the one thing that should really concern Sony is the PC-Xbox connection. Xbox live for windows combined with MSoft's new requirement for PC hardware to conform to Xbox spec could be the most troubling sign for Sony. Game Developers are a business first and foremost. If you are a game developer faced with a 20 million dollar bill to create a next gen title, what system are you going to put all your resources into optomizing your software for? With XNA game workflow, you pretty much create PC titles and Xbox titles at the same time, so it is sort of a 2 for 1 for your production budget. PS3, while extrememly capable hardware, is a totally different workflow and will need to be reworked to be compatible. So most likely the developers will make any 3rd party games to be optomized for PC/ Xbox since it is the easier route, and then port it to the PS3. As we have seen already, this means the same problems you have seen with other games that were created for Xbox360 but ported to PS3, such as call of duty 3, and others. Mainly that there will be no upgrade in graphics on the PS3 version, and potential framerate slowdowns etc., from it not being optomized.

Combine the above with the fact that some developers who previously only created PC games, will now create for PC and Xbox because of the easy workflow. Those games may never end up on the Ps3, Or not for a long time.

    I guess we'll see.

  1. Steve Says:

First, I think this is a good article. Of course one can't say for certain, but let's face it, it is a possiblity. If I am going to dish out $600+ for the console and a couple games, I'd like to at least know how well the system is faring.

Second, of course this article is going to be attacked. Most of these people, who hate what this article says, probably dished out the massive money for a PS3 already. I'd be defensive, and possibly in denial as well!

Let's take a step back and look at the pre-launch plans for each system.

X-box 360 - Pretty standard, cookie cutter launch. The price point wasn't mind blowing, the strategy was similar to the X-box, the games were solid. Low on innovation, but easy to see it had a halfway decent shot, especially with Halo 3 on the horizon.

Nintendo Wii - This one could have gone either way. I remember thinking, either they'll bomb or be very successful. It happened to be the latter.

Playstation 3 - $600 price tag, big clunky system, Blu-ray (while cool) was still too new to draw attention, no big games... and nothing new to innovation (it uses almost the same controller as PS1 for pete's sake). I would have been very shocked if it started strong.

    Just my two cents...

  1. $tack$ Says:

    to jaydao:

while that may seem like a worthy move in this game of chess. lets look at the bigger picture.
pc market is ever changing......when you buy a great new game on pc, ur system must be capable of running it. For someone like myself that has multiple decked out pc's, this is a important aspect of gaming. you cant upgrade the xbox 1.8, unless M$ decides on releasing a new and improved model every year.......which i dont think many people will like.

lets look at reality: i have the ps3, xbox 1.5 and 2 top of the line pcs. take a game like oblivion. what platform would you get it for? xbox 1.5 which is ok, ps3 which is a tad better or the pc versionWHICH RUNS FLAWLESSLY? the fact that the games are multiplatform hurt m$ severely. Seriously, who would choose a slow low-fps version of oblivion over a mid-high end pc version? not many.

this is where exclusives and all the extra functions the ps3 is capable of come in. that is why the price is at where it stands.

If M$ is really thinking that creating a bridge between windows p.c's and the elite/premium/core will help them keep their current grip as market leader ......i feel sorry for their hardware and marketing specialists. Why would i buy software on a mediocre platform, when i can play it with all the patches/visual bells and whistles on the pc?

Of course M$ could avoid all of this by releasing a system with a 8-10 year lifespan. Yet they cant go 1year and a half without feeling the need to add options it once said its console never needed..............

  1. Christopher Says:

    Are you guys serious??
PS2 is sellnig well because it is an awesome console and the price being so cheap, why not buy one for the kids if they dont already have one, or if they do have one, get another one, so siblings dont have to share...So ofcourse it well good, i bought one myself because it so cheap and the PS2 game base is huge.

PS3 we all know its overpriced for a person with an average paid job to actually go out and buy one, which is fair enough, they will either wait for PS3 to become cheaper, or will buy either a Wii or 360 and get a PS3 eventualy when its really cheap. Blu-ray have more film companies than HD-DVD do, so its only going to be right more availablity than Hd-DVD....But to say blu-ray discs will take over is a matter of opinion, they are really expensive! Granted they hold alot more information, but games wont need that amount of space they hold to create games, it does allow for gaming companies to utilise more and do more, but they wont go that far to use much more than what a HD-DVD disc can hold, especially not in this decade, think how long popular games take to make, take GTA4 for example, that will be huge and im guessing that wont really use up a fraction of a Blu-ray disc, so it is partially a waste of money.

Xbox 360 is a a really good console, apart from the odd few broken ones (roughly about 2% of 10 million, so thats alot of consoles defective, and my brother has had 7 of them, which sucks, but he likes the xbox)
The xbox price is steady but its not amazingly expensive for a games console utilising next gen hardware and graphics, and to in my opinion for around £300 is a fair price to pay for suck a console.
But there are still plenty of games for it that are still awaiting release. Im going to sound like a 360 fanboy but im not...but what about halo 3, i personally am waiting for that to be released before i purchase a 360, as well as loads of games out now i would want to play, i'd prefer to wait until halo 3 comes out!
The xbox has a huge fan base and yeah PS2 will outsell it, but only because of price, Wii will outsell it again because of price, but i do actually think the Wii is a fun system, but i agree that it is a fad and will infact die, but at this stage no one knows how the market will go.
As for the HD-DVD drive integration, M$ might believe HD-DVD is going down the pan andonly time will tell for that, and the reason for no interegration has ot be because they think HD-DVD will fail, so they released it as an accesory, a recent article said if blu-ray does well then they might be able to come up with an optional blu-ray drive, but i believe sony owns blu-ray so who knows what will hapen with that.
With the elite edition for the 360, M$ are idiots if they dont add the HDMI output to be the latest hardware version of 1.3 because reports are saying its going to be the old 1.2 version which will stop me from even purchasing the elite, and just go with premium.
Also to whoever said DMC4 will be exclusive to PS3 i think they are mistake i believe seing something about it coming over to the 360 (i maybe wrong, so dont flame me for that) and i know atleast 2 people that were going to buy a PS3 just for that game, but when i said it might be on the 360, which they already have, they said "then there is no need to buy a PS3", it will have great games, but alot of the great games are going multi-platform, which in an article i read the other day, a gaming company stated there isnt enough money in being an exclusive title!

Wii, its fun, whacky and great to play with the family, its basically a good al rounder, there is soemthing for everyone with this, and for its price, who can argue! It doesnt have anything that the Ps3 and 360 uses and its doign great, so fair play to Nintendo to not being sucked in with NEXT GEN and HIGH DEF, who cares! If its a great game and console it dont matter in my opinion, we all still crave to play the classics, on the sega, nintendo or supernes.
But it also has some great games coming to it and will only establish a bigger userbase, but as i said, i think its a fad, but only time will tell.

My opinion really, but its still no where near time to decide who you think will win or will be winning by what ever year, or what will die, pick the console you like and play it, till it dies, which hopefully is never.

Enough ranting for me, hope you can all see where im coming from, and i hope i wrote about each one fairly!
    Peace

  1. Majin_Boo Says:

All these fans for the PS3 and X360. Sony and Microsoft should be pleased. Price has a lot to do with sales. The PS2 is still selling well because there are a lot of games and its cheap. The Wii is selling well because its cheap and because of the Wiimote. The X360 is doing alright because its got a couple of good games but its still fairly expensive ($400). The PS3 is doing bad because its expensive ($600), but has a couple of good games. By now we should know that the core version of the X360/PS3 don't really matter. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a Core X360 in awhile.

So yes, no matter what the excuse, PS3 sales are bad. The PS2 and Wii are the hotspots for casual gamers. Lots of games for cheap. The X360 and PS3 are just too hardcore right now. Even with PS Home and LittleBigPlanet, the PS3 isn't going to automatically sell millions. While those things would attract casual gamers, its still $600. Heck, I'm a hardcore gamer and I'm finding it hard to drop $400 on the X360 much less $600 for a PS3. The main drive to get a next gen console right now is the games. I currently own an Xbox with roughly 50 games so I'm not in any rush to spend more money. Think about it, the X360 obviously replaced the Xbox. The PS3 didn't replace the PS2. HD gaming and movies is a big thing, but its not that big as yet. The only reason I haven't picked up a PS2 myself is because that's money I could put towards an X360. If I were a PS2 gamer then there'd be no way that Sony could get me to buy a PS3. What's the point? So I can buy more-expensive-than-DVD blu-ray movies? So I can play my PS2 games on the PS3?

Right now the X360 is cheaper than the PS3 and there are more appealing games on there. Sure the PS3 is built for the long run, but if every year the X360 turns out to have more appealing games then people like me will still think that the X360 is the better value. Yes the PS3s library will increase, but keep in mind that the X360's library will also increase. Some say that the PS3 is selling more than the X360 did when it launched, but will its current sales continue to beat the X360 current sales? If it turns out that X360 sales beat PS3 sales for the next couple of years then... at least the playing field will be level and the competition will bring better things.

fenrir pointed out that the PS2 and Wii are impulsive buys, and I agree. The PS2 is selling well, and Sony would hope that these gamers move to the PS3, but when will this happen? The price difference between the PS2 and PS3 is hindering the transition. As the next gen consoles become cheaper, the X360 becomes closer to the "impulsive buyers" price. This could cause a lot of PS2 owners to pickup an X360 as opposed to a PS3. Unless these PS2 gamers are loyal to the Playstation brand and aren't just buying the PS2 because of the games and cheap price, there won't be that much of a problem with adopting the X360.

Either way this could go in any direction. I'm only curious to see the month to month sales on each console. There will be some big titles dropping on the X360 this year across a number of genres. Couple of them being new IPs. Gears of War was a big hit for a new IP and you can bet that Gears of War 2 will draw an even bigger crowd. GT5, MGS4, new Dragon Quest and FFXIII should also turn heads on the PS3. I can't wait for E3 '07 to hear some juicy news.

  1. Jack Says:

The PS3, as a gaming machine, is too expensive. Most gamers don't own a HDTV set. The problem is that there biggest market for the PS3 is gaming. Sure it may be a great entertainment hub, but what if don't pay extra for something you either don't want or cannot use? Blu-Ray may be a great addition in a couple of years once the format is proven and the price has come down.

  1. Bradley Smale Says:

Im agreeing with paul about this sony issue, I can't wait for 2008 as the playstation titles will be benefiting from the cell, the fct the PS3 can hold a blue ray disc up to 50gb that will allow game designers to add realistic textures and soud makig the 2nd generation of PS3 titles stand out over the 360... At the moment I own a 360 and a PS3 and I feel the PS3 will win the console war overall since the sales for the PS3 are better than the PS2 in the same period when the PS2 launched.. Xbox live is currently better than the PS3 online management, Sony needs to take a few basic functions from the 360 such as being able to bring the friends list on the PS3 os in-game to allow for private chat to fellow players. I brought my PS3 on the launch date and I'm currently playing games on my 360 more than the PS3... Since the PS3 has only released in the UK i'm hoping for a improved online store since it lacks variety and thats dissapointting for a £425 price tag

  1. Synn J. Says:

Look Sony fanboys...lets be honest here. Yes Sony's sales numbers are on target with Xbox 360's timeframe. And thanks to the PS2's pricetag its a giveaway, I mean even I went out and bought me a brand new PS2, Resident Evil 4, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, GT4, Silent Hill, and all 3 GTAs for only $250 brand new. I mean that's very attractive, who wouldn't buy this...c'mon. But I think its disappointing that in a market that Sony owned 70% of that their only on "track" with the Xbox 360. That's like me beating up my little brother 7 out of 10 times for 10 years and then year 11 I beat him 5 out of 10 times. I would be a little concerned. The question is really is if Sony had a larger fanbase shouldn't they by default have more people buying their system? At this point in the game Sony should be beating not mimicking Xbox's sales numbers. Or is really worth buying a system for $600 when you can technically buy an almost equal system for $200 less. I'm sorry to say if Sony loses MGS4 then I don't care how much you're a sonyfanboy you ought to be pissed, there would be little justification to buying a more expensive system that other cheaper systems have the same games. I bought my PS2 for games not graphics! I'm not giving up my 600 dvd movies for blu-ray or HD-DVD, screw that. Like 80% of the world those new formats won't matter to me until years from now! And who cares if Xbox starts shipping games on five disks. Sony did for years with PsOne...remember Syphon Filter 1 and 2...Final Fantasy and other great games. I sorry Sony fan boys face the facts Sony is letting you down, and stand up as long as you can but you can only do that for so long...good luck and Godspeed!

  1. $tack$ Says:

all i see from people posts here, that could even remotely hurt sony is pure and simple.

money. Alot of people cant afford a ps3. so they bash it, bash it left, right, up down anyway and everyway WITHOUT EEVER OWNING ONE. This in itself is truly sad....I cant imagine putting down a buggatti veyron saying its too expensive/ or not capable/ not worth it....simply because i cant afford it. yet other people thrive on making themselves feel a litttle better in this matter.

this is sonys only hurdle. when hdtvs are a standard in every home (2009-2010)......this is when sony will retake markets pole position.

cheap lcd tvs( due to new lighter weight OLED and SED tv technology), plus a new lower price for the ps3(50-100$ less) will drive these sales. all the games coming out this year will start to showcase 50% of the ps3 putting it on par with xbox 1.8 2nd generation games. this will be a case where Sony once again triumphs.

more to the point is the fact that sony plans on continuing the trend of supporting its hardware for more than 8 years. just like ps1, ps2. M$ already uccked up, by having to redesign the 360. not to mention, we all felt how quickly the original xbox was just DROPPED whne the 360 came out. HMMM, is this how you treat customers, then expect them to buy new hardware? what is M$ selling here? UBER pc's with no hdmi? Seriously now.

if you deny this.... well you really need to step back into reality.

  1. Mike Says:

It should come as no surprise that the PS3 sales are what they are. I mean it's a $600 machine. Sony takes a hit on each PS3 that's sold, so if you all hate Sony so much, go stick it to them and buy a PS3. I wonder how much money sony makes on each PS2 that's sold. Something tells me that more than compensates for the loss they take from the PS3.

In any event, this article is blatantly bias. Any 360 fanboy should agree to that. The fact of the matter is the PS3 is a solid console, and has been reviewed as one of the best BD players on the market. It's an inexpensive home entertainment machine, but an expensive game console. It's all in how you look at.

I have both the 360 and the PS3, along with a killer HDTV and sound system. I can write that both machines rock. Right now, I'd have to give the upper hand to the 360 since it has more games out and because of XBox Live (which I dont use, but is still a factor). Of course, the 360 has been out much longer than its competition, so this edge is to be expected. BUT, I think in the end PS3 will come out the better of the two consoles once its price drops and true power of it's CPU are realized. It has infinitely more potential than the 360. Sorry 360 fans, but it's true.

And as a side note, it's obvious that most people bashing the PS3 have ismply never played one. Playing a game in a WalMart on those crap LCDs don't reveal anything about a system. Anyone who speaks illy of something with out any experience on it should just close their mouths.

I have rang microsoft it is a week out of waranty and they want $200 I told them this is a joke and argued with them on the phone. They know there is problems with there console I told them look on the internet the there millions of complaints. The man agred and told me it was policy I willl not pay $200 you will Microsoft I willl argue and bag this company as much a possiable. I now have to selll my console and everything at a loss and buy a PS3 I have looked on the internet the ps3 is a far better machine and and dosn't seam to have hardwear problems. From looking on the internet Microsoft been suid in the Uk for a lot of $ for having to many problems there is countless problems with the xbox 360 If you own one if a matter of time.

  1. Vince Says:

PS3 is failing and the proof is that many 3rd party companies are bailing on them. Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, and Grand theft auto were the main reasons people brought Playstation along with many other exclusive games. Now, however, you will be able to play many of those games on Xbox360. Virtua fighter 5, DMC 4, Assassins Creed, and GTA4 were all suppose to be exclusive to PS3 system but because the sales are so dissapointing they have jumped ship and these games will be available on the 360. If you go to the gametrailers website almost every game listed has the PS3 & 360 logos letting you know they will be available on both systems. This makes you think, would you rather pay $400 or $600 because either way you go you will play the same games. Most people would rather save $200 dollars and get the 360. Some will spend a little to get the 120 gig hardrive and still feel that they came out cheaper than with PS3.

  1. This is almost funny... Says:

Ok, all the people defending sony, take a step back and think what your saying. You say the PS3 will dominate because its "future proof", right? Not going to lie, but the gamecube and xbox 1 were faster, the xbox being over twice as fast, as the PS2, but, the xbox didn't last any longer. It didn't win. You might say that sony was able to keep the cost down and sell lots of consoles, but the gamecube was always lower priced. When it comes down to it, the majority of the population will play any game they find fun. World of Warcraft does not have the best graphics or even close to it, yet it is still an incredibly popular game. Games are the #1 factor someone considers when buying a console. Lets see...Im a developer looking to spend about 20 million dollars to create the next killer app...which system should i choose? Well, im not going to lie guys, but i'd choose the one with the biggest install base, right now, the 360. So, i create this game, it does well, and people start buying the 360 instead of the PS3 for this game. Guess what? The PS3's hole gets even deeper as the xbox install base grows, developers are more likely to go the way of 360.

Lets not forget the nintendo wii. It is attractive significantly more people, coupled with its low price point, its an impulse buy. The problem is, are the "casuals" who buy the system going to invest money in buying new 60 dollar games for the console? Well, probably noit as many as would buy games for a PS3 or Xbox360. But, on the other hand, nintendo is making a profit on every system they sell, something microsoft and sony haven't been able to do.

    Now, for the past.

Lets think back to the NES. It was nintendo who came up with the idea for the 4 way directional pad, or D-Pad. On the nintendo 64, it was nintend who came up with the analog stick, and the rumble pack. Guess who copied those? Sony and Microsoft. Sony re-released the PS1 controller with an analog stick. Now, I think you would have a hard time dis-agreeing that nintendo has come up with all the major inovations in controls for video games. Why should it be any different this time? Nintendo has spent billions of dollars planning their nintendo wii, and im positive they have come up with many things to guarentee it doesnt go the way of sega.

In the end, I think that *most* people will own a nintendo wii, and an xbox 360.

Before someone brings up sony again, remember that sony obviously liked the idea of motion control, because they copied it in their new "sixaxis" controller. Before someone brings up graphics again, remember that in a years time, my computer will be pumping out much better graphics than your ps3.

Remember, that everyone thought the DS would be a complete failure...well...im not going to lie...in fact im going to be 100% honest, its completely destroying the psp, with, *gasp* fun games, innovative controls, and stellar graphics...wait no...it doesn't have stellar graphics...in fact the graphics are horrible...well shit...its still dominating.

Maybe, just maybe, if you guys put a little bit more effort into attempting to defend your beloved playstation 3, which has flopped everywhere, think back to what made the PS2 so succesful. Games.

Oh, and one last thing. This is just my opinion, BUT, judging by the fact that a blank blu-ray disc costs 29.99(CDN), and an hd-dvd costs about a dollar, HD-DVD will be dominant in computers, and eventually, make its return in dominating the movie business.

Good luck Sony, but.... www.shkyw.org.... that about sums it up.

  1. Don Says:

Interesting remarks by: (This is almost funny) maybe it would be a good idea to get your facts straight though. At Next Tag they have blank 25g blueray discs listed at $15 & they have 15g hddvd discs listed at $13.

Sure it was games that made the ps2 succesful, but it was also the Sony PS Brand, most ps1 owners upgraded to ps2, I was one of them. Speaking of games, the PS3 has a more impressive lineup of games than the ps2 did at this stage of its life, it also has a more impressive lineup than the 360 did at this time in its life & IMO its lineup is better than the wii at the moment.

I can't believe all you Microsoft people bashing Sony, when Microsoft is jerking you around so unmercifuly, are you so dense that you can't see this. Sure Sony is in the business to make money but at least they put out a quality product that doesn't break down like the 360 does, & they don't expect you to have to spend hundreds of dollars keeping the thing up to date every year & after a few years just abandon it & you.

As far as PC Gaming goes, an awful lot of people just can't be bothered with it, you have to have a highend pc, (expensive) also you have to upgrade components, including graphics cards (expensive), a good one will cost you as much as a ps3 & not everybody wants to lug their PC and all its components out to the living room so they can play games on a large screen, its an unsightly mess in the livingroom, its much easier & cheaper to buy a game console & IMO the consoles are more fun.

I think most people know that Sony is not going to dominate this time around, at least not for a few years, if at all, but they are in this for the long haul & the ps3 is so much more than a great game machine, I use mine more for other things, I have our digital pics on it, my music, I can watch HD movies with the included Blueray Player & the online store is great & if thats not enough I can play Games & the Online Service is Free & evolving.

  1. Chris Says:

Let me just settle it right here.
I am an avid gamer but not hardcore. I love my PS2 so it's not like I'm anti-Sony.

The PS3 as it stands blows.
For $600+tax, I need more than what it is offering? Resistance? whatever. Genji? I wouldn't play any of the crap that's out if they paid me because my time is more valuable.

Sure, when GTA and Metal Gear and other worthy software hit the market, then maybe, but then why should I buy the machine now and give Sony an interest-free deposit of my money when I could buy it a year later and not miss a beat and perhaps buy it at cheaper price. THAT's the issue.

To be fair, Wii and Xbox 360 don't have that many games I want to play either but at least Wii is $250, has Zelda and has the novelty factor of the control.

  1. Don Says:

Chris: If we all had this point of view, there would be no game consoles, somebody has to pay the bills, if we all waited a couple of years after launch to buy a system, the gaming market would just dry up & go away, I respect this being your decision but you can hardly call yourself an avid gamer.

You don't sound excited about any of the present systems, but millions of people are excited. Between the 360, The Wii & The PS3, gamers have never had it so good, sure The 360 & The PS3 cost a little more than the Wii, but you are getting more, especially with the PS3, and when inflation & other things are taken into consideration, they are right in line with past systems, actually cheaper than some were.

You say your time is too valuable to be playing any of the games (which you call crap), well I guess we could all say this, there are certainly more constructive things we could be doing, but the fact is we do what we like doing & if that is taking an hour or two in the evening to play a game gives us a little enjoyment & relieves a little stress, well I say go for it.

Anyone who can't afford a PS3 or a 360 (the elite ver is now only $100 dollars less than the PS3), well by all means buy a Wii & if that is too expensive then buy a PS2 but don't bad mouth Sony & the PS3 because it is too expensive, they are taking a hit of over $200 on every machine they sell, most times in this world you have to pay for what you get.

PPL!!!! this war is not between the ps2/Wii and ps360! it is between xbox 360 and ps3 and everyone knows that! except sheep (nintendo fanboys). reason: the xbox and ps3 are in a completely different category than the wii. in
price and in hardware..while i would prefer that the 360 come out on top (considering i have invested 1200$+ in games and stuff. Lol?) if it "loses" to the wii, i couldnt care less! if it "loses" to ps2, i also dont care at all...but, IF the xbox "wins", that means more and better games/exclusives/lotsofstuff to justify my purchase. sorry but in a sense the wii=supercasual/kiddie=NOT hardcore. hardcore=me

The PS2 was first to the market with no real competition.
ENter the Xbox360 and the Nintendo Wii, and the PS3 is stuck sitting on shelves, mainly because there are 2 good exculsives- Motorstorm and Resistance. Everything else worth playing is better on the 360, just read the reviews and watch the comparison videos. SONY is losing exclusives, and if developers won't stay faithful to SONY, there MUST be something wrong

And that last price drop comment was especially ridiculous.

Note to Cinemablend. You want to maintain a good site and have people keep visiting? Get level headed gamers to write the articles and not hardcore fanboy devotees. It makes the site un-attractive.

And the xbot fanboys dont make it better.

Hey archaic, I believe that you said
"he DREAMCAST had potential, the Sega Saturn had potential...
The PS2 was first to the market with no real competition."

The dreamcast was out before the ps2 stupidass. Yeah, sony may not have had a great launch library, but that doesn't mean that the 360's launch was all black diamonds and pearls. Get your facts straight. You say that Sony is the only one losing exclusives, then explain why MS lost saints row, enchanted arms, wardevil, ace combat, and the ninja gaiden series? Eh? Who talks shit 5 months into a system's release?

Also you said that everything is better on the ps3, but did ya know that oblivion scored higher on the ps3 than the 360? Or was microsofts dick so far down your throat that you couldnt see it? Dont try to call people out for being fanboys when your stupid ass is shouting out how the 360 trumps over everything ps3 has to offer.

    Thats an xfag for you.

  1. Don Says:

ARCHA1C: I see the 360 Fanboys are as arrogant & missinformed as ever, you would like everyone to believe that Sony only has a couple of good exclusives, well you wish that were the case but it is most definately not the case, & I think you know it.

Sony has a lot more than that in their exclusives pile, when you look at it. There have already been 8 exclusive games released on the PlayStation 3 including Formula One, Resistance, MotorStorm, Ridge Racer 7, etc.

In addition to the 8 exclusives which have allready been released, on the horizon according to a list released by a few sources there are about 30 more exclusive PlayStation 3 games.

The List So Far Is As Follows:
    Africa
    Angel Rings
    Coded Arms: Assault
    DC Universe
    Driver 5
    Eight Days
    Eye of Judgment
    Eyedentify
    Fifth Phantom Saga
    Final Fantasy XIII
    Final Fantasy Versus XIII
    God of War III
    Gradius 6
    Gran Turismo 5
    Heavenly Sword
    Hot Shots Golf 5
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
    Killzone
    L.A. Noire
    Lair
    LittleBigPlanet
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
    Monster Kingdom
    Ni-Oh
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction
    SingStar
    SOCOM
    Tekken 6
    The Getaway 3
    Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
    Warhawk
    White Knight Story
    WipeOut

As you can see the PlayStation 3 and Sony are far from being out of the running this generation with many amazing games coming down the pipeline which will be exclusive to the next-gen PlayStation 3. Games like MGS4, God of War III, Getaway 3, Hot Shots Golf 5, new Jak and Daxter, etc, etc, etc, should all push the system to new limits with games like SOCOM putting the online functionality to the true test. Now some of these may not remain exclusive but it is realistic to presume the most will.

This coupled with the fact that Sony has more In House Development than Microsoft & Nintendo combined, will insure that the PS3 will prevail.

  1. Ian Says:

I'm currently deciding on what system to buy, but really, it's so hard to visualize the Xbox360 to survive without any hardware upgrade during the years to come. THe PS3, as Sony said, really looks the part of being 'future-proofed', but would this strategy be really successful? Maybe PS3's launch had a pretty messed up timing: a great blow that landed nowhere because the target was not yet where it was aiming for.

Imagine the events that would transpire on the years ahead: more games are going multiplatform, and during the following months sony will realease first party developed games, and MS as well. At this point, people who are price conscious would look at the systems and see the similarities in their libraries, and would probably go for the cheaper one (360), which they are actually doing right now. The gap between the two will widen, and developers would look at how they would recover the money they are spending on making games. Developers would at this point probably make something again for a multiplatform release, and the cycle continues.

Although the PS3 looks powerful compared to the 360, the harm that the installed base of the 360 this year would do to its future sales could kill it. Developers need money to continue creating games, and they may see no reason on making games exclusive to the PS3, and thus not utilize it's power. At least, this is what most people see as a possibility.

But consider this, eidos at least is planning to release big game titles for the PS3 next year, where it expects that by that time, the PS3 has already accumulated an installed base where eidos could profit from. At that point in time, Christmas is over, and during that season Sony might just decisively lowered the PS3 price so as to entice the PS fans to buy it or get it as presents. Developers who want to see and experiment just how much the ps3's hardware can go would have an incentive to try to do that, just because they would worry less about how much they would lose at that moment. Then people might try buying PS3's again. Plus there' s FFXIII, a potentially console selling game, to look forward to. Hell, I would buy a PS3 because of that.
The only things that would ruin this is if Sony messes up the timing...

  1. Mac Says:

I have one question, Why does everyone bring up Killzone as the Killer App. for PS3. Last time I checked no one cared about the first Killzone. Now don't get me wrong I'm a gamer of games and not systems, thats why I own all 3 next (current) gen systems. Will I give Killzone a chance yes but from the look of things and I do mean "Look", all the hype of Killzone is based on what it will look like and not how it will play.

Back to topic, some people tend to forget that PS2 cost $129 US. For a middle to low class family with 2 kids and bills, $129 and a few games is a better bargain than $399 or even $599.

  1. ukilnme1970 Says:

I see no point in going back and forth in yet another fanboy argument. I will stick with my PS2 and xbox for now. If that does not satisfy me I will play with myself.

  1. Edge of Blade Says:

Now, the Sony fanboys aren't going to read this. And that's fine. You were programmed not to think for yourselves. You can't help that you are idiots. It's not your fault...

So, for the rest of you with half a brain and a intolerance for bullshit:

    1. PS3 is being sold based solely on Sony-branded empty promises. The biggest selling points are things that have yet to come. PlayStation Home, a glorified 3D chat room...ya, like the internet needs another one of these.

    2. The 360, despite what some people swear on their mother grave, launched with some great games, like Call of Duty 2, Perfect Dark Zero (ya, feel free to argue that point...I loved it), Project Gotham Racing 3, and the relatively unsung Condemned.

    3. Killzone was a bomb. In was characterized by its inability to kill jack****, much less kill Halo. Killzone 2 is the game no one asked for. But they showed what Killzone 2 "might" look like and suddenly, everyone wants another Killzone. When Killzone 2 actually comes out...it will look NOTHING like the E3 trailer. You know that, but this Sony fanboy part of you wants it to be true. So go on rooting for Sony while we all laugh at you for falling for this crap.

    4. Microsoft doesn't give a rats *** if HD-DVD fails. They aren't the primary backer. Microsoft will just go on with their gaming lives. If Blu-ray had failed, then Sony would be in deep ****. They ARE Blu-ray as far as the industry is concerned. Sony had a LOT more to lose if Blu-ray failed. So keep it straight. HD-DVD is failing...not Xbox 360.

    5. Don, that has to be the most flawed argument yet. Because Sony has 30 exclusives and people only want to play 7 of them, in NO way proves PS3 will succeed. And many of those haven't really been announced and a handful I have never heard of. But did you just give me Africa as a reason why PS3 will succeed? Are you kidding? That list is more bloated than an AOL install disk and you damn well know it.

    6. "Future Proof"...is...a...lie. Future proof is ONLY a marketing angle used to subvert your competitors projection of the future. If you do that successfully, you DRIVE the vision of YOUR future. If Back to the Future was never made, do you think that people would be as likely to want to invent a hovering skateboard? Surprise! Your future is more likely to happen because you convinced people it would happen. BUT, would that future have happened if you hadn't predicted and marketed your view of the future? Couldn't someone else have done the same thing to you?

    7. Sorry, $tack$, I have the money to go buy a PS3. I neither want one or want to support Sony. However, I'm sure just placing it in my apartment would make sure all my dust gathers in only once place. Might I suggest checking your ego at the door and avoid arguments of personal superiority when you argue. It makes you look like an ass.

    8. Paul. Sony has deep pockets. Ok, fine. Microsoft has MUCH DEEPER pockets. However, the real factor working against Microsoft is how much money are the willing to sink in the Xbox in order to destroy the PlayStation? They are ****ing Microsoft! Determined and loaded. And, while we are on the subject, Nintendo has consistently been the most profitable of the big console manufacturers, even if they fail to capture dominating market share. While everyone else goes takes multi-billion dollar losses, Nintendo can fill their pockets faster than anyone else. And all they do is games....not TVs, not operating systems....games. If you went by measures like those, then Gamecube won the last generation for being the most profitable.

Sorry fanboys. This generation's score: 360, Wii, PS3. And you will deny it to your graves.

  1. slugg Says:

PS2 sells more because their crappy drives go bad. I have owned 3 PS2's because of this, and will never by another Sony product again. Crappy Stereo's, overpriced TV's, exploding Laptops, etc. I have had a 360 since day one with no problems. No problem with my original XBOX, either. To each their own. So, aside from replacing broken PS2's with new ones (which most people, like me, are only willing to stomach because they are now so cheap), people buy it because of the price. Of the 100 million PS2's sold, how many were sold after it dropped to $149.99 or less? Well over half, that's for sure. So Sony's "future-proof" machine might have priced itself out of having a future, because the Wii is cheap NOW, and the 360 can and will drop its price soon, a price drop Sony cannot match. That is the reason for releasing the Elite now... when the sales for it have faded, BOOM! Core and Pro versions will drop in price, 50 - 100 dollars. This time around, Sony made some miscalculations that will hurt them in the long run. How bad remains to be seen.

  1. Christopher Says:

Edge of Blade....you right on the money with what you brought up in your reply. Sony fanboys need to see the light, and pull their heads out of their arses, seriously.....pick a console you want to play buy it and play it:
be it the wii (for its fun and innovation and creativity it has given the next gen gaming world) or 360 (for a series of great games that it has to offer now and the future, and yes even potential hardware failures LOL - i aint had any yet!) and lastly the ps3 (for its next gen technology, be it for the WiFi, 1.3 HDMI, Blu-ray)

Personally i dont care who wins, im probably going to play all 3 eventually, but for now im sticking with my 360, because as much as there are problems and flaws in its design that alot of hardcore gamers can depict and moan about, there are also alot of advantages and pluses to having one, if you cant think of any, you either havent played on one long enough, or had a trail of broken ones and gave up. (my brother has had his 7th delievered, he aint going to stop and re-evaluate to buy another console, he will get a new one each time until he gets one that works for him)
Right im done ranting, i talk too much! there is a point in here somehwere i was trying to make, but i think i lost the plot, i can compliment all 3 systems and i would say im more niclined to the 360, but i dont think i have read anything from someone that is more inclined to sony saything anything remotely good about the 360 or the wii, apart from things along the lines of "its good, different, and its a fad"!

    Peace

Touhid: I really dont consider myself a fanboy, although I did have a ps2, I resisted buying a 360 & upgraded to a ps3 when it launched & I really like it. That being said, I looked at the link which you posted & have to say, quite a few titles coming out for the 360 this year & next are impressive, but that does not diminish the fact that some impressive titles are coming out for the ps3 as well & if it can survive this year with reasonable sales, which most think it will, then it will really start to show what it can do.

Who knows I may even get a 360, especially when the price drops, it would be cool to have both. Ive said all along that I think it is very capable, its the 360 fanboys constantly bashing the ps3 that I dont like. I mean when you think about it, whats the point, its childish & ignorant & Ive been guilty of it myself, well Ive rambled on enough, & people are probably sick of all my posts, Im outa here.

  1. Eddie Says:

You're all missing the obvious. The next gen race is over and the winner is clearly the Nintendo Wii. They can't keep it stocked in stores 6 months after it was released. It's widely expected to pass the X360 by fall. If you consider the MS channel stuffing, which is well known, the Wii may already have surpassed X360 sales to end users (xbox live basic service is free, yet only about 5 million of the supposedly 10 million purchasers have signed up).

More importantly, the developers clearly see the writing on the wall and are all announcing games for the Wii, even developers that haven't historically developed for the Gamecube. The developers know that the larger the ownership of the console the more able they are to sell more games. Now, it's probably true that Wii owners tend to be more casual gamers and may purchase fewer games, but if they end up with a much larger installed base it doesn't really matter that they may buy fewer games.

The main thing all you fanboys are missing is that the graphics don't really matter (look at the DS for proof of that). As long as the graphics are good enough, they're irrelevant. For example, let's say I want to play NBA Live 07. The fact of the matter is that it looks pretty damn good on an original xbox or ps2 and the benefit of having an X360 or PS3 to a game like this is minimal (people don't really care about seeing the sweat on the players or the player's eyes moving around). People essentially want a fun and innovative gaming experience and the Wii provides it to them far more than any of the other nextgen consoles. Consider, my wife absolutely hates video games, yet she has fun playing bowling on our Wii and a few other games, such as Rayman Rabbids. We've had an original xbox in our house for years, never once did she have any interest in playing anything on it.

Reading your comments reminded me of a friend of mine in my class. He is a devoted Xbox360 fan similar to that of a Christian. He arguees against my buying of a PS3 because it is a cheaply made, mass produced 'jap' system that of course does not diserve to be mentioned in this MS dominated country. To be honest I have played gears of war, which is my favorite game on the 360, and have came to a realization that comparing these two systems solely on their games is about as accurate of a dipiction as compairing the texture of apples and oranges. The graphics on a game differs completely game to game solely on the goal for that game. Do you honestly think that your opnion matters to these developers? No, they just want your money regardless of how you swipe your card. The question, or dicision if you will, to which console is better can not be answered with future statistics or previous outcomes. It can only be justified by the owner's themselves. Who cares if I sit alone with my PS3 compaired to 3-4 others with their cheaper 360s? I for one am glad that I chose a PS3 over the 360 just in terms that I have the brain power to make a choice for myself and not one that a 'fanboy' has made for me. Sure the PS3 costs more and isnt selling so hot right now, what do you expect? Not every one had the money to invest in MS when Gates first started now did they? Leave the PS3 alone and let it decide its own fate.

Eddie : "The next gen race is over and the winner is clearly the Nintendo Wii."

That's like the Japanese saying that WWII was over after bombing Pearl Habour.
As the Japanese quickly found out WWII hadn't even really begun yet.

Eddie "If you consider the MS channel stuffing, which is well known, the Wii may already have surpassed X360 sales to end users "

Outside Nintendo's home country of Japan, the 360 has outsold the Wii in every single country by at least twice. In America, according to NPD, the 360 has sold 5.1 million units to the Wii's 1.9 million units, that's a massive advantage for the 360 of to the tune of 3.2 million more 360's units sold more than the Wii.

Eddie : "xbox live basic service is free"

    Another lie.
Gold membership of XBOX Live costs $49.99 for a 1 year subscription.

Eddie : "yet only about 5 million of the supposedly 10 million purchasers have signed up). "

XBOX Live has over SIX million signed up, and that happened a full 4 months bfore Microsoft's forecast:
    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2007/0305-xboxlivereaches6million.htm?WText.camp=XboxLive&WText.campSrc=RSS

Eddie :"More importantly, the developers clearly see the writing on the wall and are all announcing games for the Wii, "

Not a single PS2 exclusive has been announced for the Wii. Meanwhile PS2 exclusives like DMC continue to get ported to the 360. Let's remember the PS2 has an installed base of over 115 million who bought the PS2 precisely for PS2 games like GTA, DMC etc. They have no reason whatsoever to buy a Wii.

Eddie : "The main thing all you fanboys are missing is that the graphics don't really matter "

    Oh yes they do.
That's why great games like Oblivion will never be released on the Wii. The Wii could never handle the graphics.

right 1st things 1st.The wii is family orientated,so it will sell, good games bad graphics it will sell anyways, its sooo fun.the elite 360 sounds great, pushing the ps3 out of its way,but the ps3 has still gotta catch up.wait until 2008/2009 and talk again then.i love all the machines and depending what you want, its gonna be one or the other.i got them all and theyre all sooooo different, unique, good and bad points.sure ps2 is winnning now, that'll be dead in 2years.move in the next gen

ps3 is expensive, but new technology, theyve gota get to grips with new equipment, give them time.360 is wicked at moment, gears of war is masterful, ohhhh the graphics.its a solid 1st year for them.winning awards left right and centre.

    wii wait,wii see,then wii talk

the ps3 and xbox 360 are great game systems and i would buy one but they are jus so fuckin expensive. a ps3 is fukin $500 for the least expensive ones and the least expensive xbox 360 is $275. and either system u get the games are like $50-$60 each. the wii is less expensive but its hard as hell 2 find 1. the games are fun but the catagories are limited. when tha ps2 first came out it was $225. i doubt they are gonna stop makein ps2 and ps2 games cuz like 5 years ago they said they were gonna stop makein gba's and gba games but tht never happened.

  1. homwbrew Says:

ps3 is dying becoz let's face it,there aint much killer games at the moment and no modded ps3? I dun mind paying high price for the console but there's no chance in hell Im paying anything above 10 bucks for game. No piracy = No ps3 sales.

ps2 doing so well it's becoz pirated dvd games for ps2 is damn cheap!hell, u can even download ps2 games n burn it to dvd & play it...can save $$$$ even more..BUT not for ps3.so wat if it has 60GB HDD,it's uselss coz u cant copied games to the hdd n boot from there...yeah, like many ppl said, it's juz a matter of time.We shall see....

xbox360 is doing better than ps3 coz of piracy too.Im not a fan of FPS but xbox360 got a damn lot of FPS titles.wat happen to 3rd person? But i juz bought my xbox360(modded) over ps3 becoz I can get buy & play cheap pirated HD games. And No, I havent got banned from xbox live....so tat's the advantage xbox360,ps2 has over ps3....juz my 2 cents.

Don't think this person is a fanboy, they are just making predictions.
Writing this on my PS3 right now.
Yeah but I disagree with your statement about the PS3 dying, it's just taking awhile to mature.

  1. redblueice Says:

The prediction is simply wrong, look at the market now.
