Hype PS2's Bully May Not Get A Sequel on N4G
PS2's Bully May Not Get A Sequel Industry Analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities is becoming quite notorious for his "ability" to make risky (at times somewhat unsubstantiated) predictions about the state of video gaming. This time the subject of his clairvoyance was Rockstar's latest media whipping boy, Bully. Pachter predicts that as a result of retail mediocrity Rockstar wont take a chance on making Bully 2.

Reports show that with three year development costs at around 15 million, Bully will rake in around 24 million. Taking into consideration numerous other costs such as advertising and law suits, it is predicted that Rockstar will barely break even.

These guys are professionals and their opinions should be respected as such but, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt. Michael Pachter has been wrong in the past (at times embarrassingly so.) Back in 2004 he predicted that the Xbox 360 was “doomed from the start” because of the systems speculated lack of backwards compatibility. Sure BC is missed at times but tell Mr. Pachter to give me a call the first time Joe Gamer puts down Gears of War to play their backwards compatible copy of Brute Force.

Furthermore, Rockstar has said in the past that they believe sequels to games like theirs sell better than their predecessors. They believe that often gamers will borrow unproven IP’s from friends or rental stores. When the sequel hits they know what they’re getting into and are more willing to shell out the additional bones.

When pressed for comment, Rockstar only gave the obligatory, “Rockstar does not comment on rumors or speculation.” Here’s hoping we’re not expelled from Bullworth Academy; we are so hoping for a second term.
