Monday will suck slightly more than usual for PS3 owners tomorrow. Sony says that they'll be taking the service down for maintenance for most of the day.
"I’m here today to let you know that we will be performing routine scheduled maintenance on the network on Monday, April 16th, starting at approximately 6:00 am PDT / 9:00 am EDT," said Matthew Harper, senior manager of PlayStation Digital Platforms, on the PlayStation.Blog. "This maintenance will last roughly 13 hours, concluding around 7:00pm PDT / 10:00 pm EDT. During much of this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online. PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one." Sony didn't mention what the maintenance is for. However, Harper says that the company is going to try to be more transparent about these moves in the future "We absolutely understand that the community wants more information than we’ve been able to provide in this post. Part of my job is to make sure that the lines of communication are open between our users and PlayStation. While I don’t have more details to share at this time regarding the downtime, I will certainly work to include more info in future posts." It's worth pointing out that companies take down online services all the time for maintenance even though there's no crisis underway. For example, many MMO's have scheduled maintenance once per week. It's a preventive process. Back to top
