PSN Offers Pair Of Sales Celebrating Vita And 2013
Apparently Sony wants all of your money this winter. Not only has the early-year trickle of games started to build to a downpour, but now the PlayStation ecosystem is set to host another pair of mega sales, one celebrating the second birthday of the PlayStation Vita, the other offering deep discounts on some games from the past year.
First up is the PS Vita Anniversary Sale, kicking off tomorrow and offering discounts of up to 50 percent off for everyday digital shoppers and up to 75 percent off for PlayStation Plus subscribers. For the record, these discounts are good through March 4.
“I can’t believe it’s been a year, but here we are celebrating another PS Vita anniversary,” said SCEA Platform Marketing’s Sharon Kapitula. “…The platform has greatly transformed in the past two years, and the passionate support and personal stories I’ve heard from our development community have been truly inspiring.”
Kapitula goes on to promise more “exciting things on the horizon,” including the impending launch of the PlayStation Vita slim model and Borderlands 2.
In order to celebrate the Vita’s second birffday, a whole bunch of games are being offered at a discount, the full list of which can be found right here. As for some highlights, you can look for the cross-buy version of Castlestorm for $6.99 or $4.89 with Plus. Escape Plan, which is cross-buy with the PS4, can be yours for $10.49 or $7.34 with Plus. Killzone Mercenary has been marked down to $24.99 or $17.49 with Plus, while Ragnarok Odyssey can be yours for $20.99 or $14.69 with Plus.
My two can’t miss recommendations, though, are Hotline Miami, which is also cross-buy, and Velocity Ultra. The delightfully pixelated and violent Hotline Miami is just $4.99 regular and $2.50 with Plus, while the vertically-scrolling shoter Velocity Ultra is marked down to $3.49 regular, or $2.09 with Plus. Both great games and an absolute steal at that price point.
Next up is the Back to 2013 Sale, which also starts tomorrow and offers sales on a bunch of games from last year at 50 percent discounts for everyone and 75 percent discounts for Plus. The full listing can be found here but, as before, I’m going to pick out a few highlights to give you an idea of what to expect.
“Sometimes there just isn’t enough time in a year to play all the games you might want to, and sometimes titles just slip through the cracks,” said SNE Digital Distribution Manager Chieh Chen. For such games from the past year, this sale is just for you.
Dragon’s Crown, for starters, is just $39.99 on PS3 and $35.99 with Plus. On the Vita, those prices are $24.99 and $17.49 respectively. The PS3, PS4 and Vita versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition are being discounted, as is Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for the Vita and single episodes/season passes for both The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Wolf Among Us.
