Former boss at Sony Worldwide Studios, Phil Harrison, has indeed joined Infogrames as their president, reporting directly to CEO David Gardner. Harrison follows his statements at GDC about his disappointment with Sony’s work in the online space and digital distribution with a new initiative at the floundering Atari. The company is expected to announce robust plans to get in the online game, and Harrison is a key component.
"This is the perfect time to join Infogrames and help shape the future of Atari - one of the industry's legendary brands. As the game business moves rapidly online I believe we have an outstanding opportunity to create amazing network game and community experiences for players the world over. I am especially excited to be working on this challenge together with David, one of the most respected leaders and successful executives in our industry," said Harrison. Harrison was a long time Sony employee, and there is much speculation about why he would leave a solid foundation for what many see as a sinking ship. Of course, not many people enjoy working for something so steadfast as Sony. Whatever his reasons are, it should be noted that Phil Harrison may have wanted a challenge. That is certainly what he faces with the Atari brand. We should be getting more information on Harrison’s plans for Atari later this week. |
