Philip K Dick Ventures Into Video Games

Movies based on the works of Philip K. Dick have been hit or miss in quality. I still find great joy in Total Recall despite the movie being admittedly over Schwarzenegger’d. Minority Report completely twisted up the meaning of Dick’s original story, but still managed to be a really nice film. But perhaps it’s within games that we can interact with Dick’s unique view of the world. After all the stories are most often about personal identity and where the main character – and thus the reader/author – fits into the world.

The Halcyon Company, who also own the Terminator franchise, have been given unprecedented access to Philip K. Dick’s work. His daughters have allowed the company to option the rights to the 40+ novels and over 100 short stories Dick penned in his life. ” "Until we closed the deal we didn't realize how coveted the library was in Hollywood,” said Halycyon co-CEO Victor Kubicek.

The company is currently working on two titles, but they have not announced which stories are being adapted.
