While there's still no Final Fantasy 7 remake in the works, an even better Square Soft role-playing game is on its way back. Chrono Trigger will be re-released on Nintendo DS on November 25th.
It's difficult to adequately describe the game's awesomeness to those of you who never played it in Super Nintendo so I'll just say this: it's arguably the best RPG Square ever made and is a must-play for any fan of the genre. Of course, I'm not looking at the game through than eyes of a teen who hasn't played an RPG that hasn't been confused for a rape simulator. Maybe the 2D sprite graphics and MIDI soundtrack seems dated to those younger folks but the story still holds up.
For those of you who have played it, there's a few new features for the DS version. The port will have an Arena Mode, which I assume is the wireless multiplayer hinted at in earlier versions. The single-player game will also have new dungeons - that jumped out at me on the press release because previously I had heard it was only one new dungeon. Presumably these dungeons are side quests for the later, less linear portion of the game as I have trouble believing they'd rewrite the main storyline at all. Who knows, though.
