Remember that strategy FPS Tiberiumannounced back in December? The one set in the Command & Conquer universe? Well, forget it - EA just deep-sixed it.
Tiberium, according to the initial announcement, would have put players in the shoes of Ricardo Vega, a GDI soldier in command of a variety of infantry, aircraft, and armored vehicles. It was initially supposed to be released this fall for PC, Xbox 360, and PC. However, during the summer it was announced that the game would be pushed way back into 2010 so it would be a lie to say the cancellation was a complete surprise.
What was the reason Tiberium got the axe? It wasn't deemed up to snuff by EA. A spokesperson told Kotaku that, "The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market." No one's really in a position to argue with EA on that call - the gameplay video released back in January (posted below) looked pretty sharp but that and a few screenshots were all we saw of the project. Still, would've been cool to see the C&C series make another foray into the FPS genre and improve upon the shortcomings of C&C Renegade.
