Turn-based combat in video games seems to be dying a slow, turn-based death but one popular strategy game is on its way back: a new Jagged Alliance game is currently in development for Nintendo DS. Or still in development, depending on how you look at it.
You have no idea what Jagged Alliance is, do you? Well, it was a two-game series for the PC in which you recruited, trained, and commanded mercenaries as they waged guerilla wars against dictators of small, fictional countries. The second game, Jagged Alliance 2, was released back in 1999 so we're due for another one.
Joystiq learned that the JA game for DS is being developed by Strategy First Inc. and Cypron Studios and published by Atari. Back in 2005, Strategy First announced it was developing a remake of Jagged Alliance 2 for DS along with Pocket PC Studios - presumably this is the same project, though with Cypron instead of Pocket PC. So it's not really news that a Jagged Alliance game is coming to DS - but it is nice to know that the project is still alive.
Oh yeah, and no clue on release dates, expected new features, or anything. But who cares about little details like that, right?
