Rumor: Next Xbox Will Have Forward-Compatibility

The next Xbox console, whenever it comes out, will hopefully be backwards-compatible - meaning it will be able to play Xbox and Xbox 360 games. However, it might go one further by not only playing your old games but making them better, too.
An anonymous source told Xbox Evolved that the new Xbox console may utilize this so-called "forward-compatibility." No, it doesn't let you travel into the future and play games that haven't been released yet. Basically, when you play your old Xbox 360 games on the new consoles, they'll be enhanced with better graphics, a new control scheme to fit the next-gen console's controller, etc. In other words, it wouldn't be unlike playing a PC game on a system with a better video card or something. Presumably this would only work for a few select Xbox 360 titles - Xbox Evolved cited Gears of War 3 as a possible example of a 360 game with forwards-compatibility. While getting a new face-lift on some old games sounds like a neat idea, I'd be content with guaranteed backwards-compatibility. Gears of War 3 might get a better frame rate on this new console but will we be able to play all of our 360 games without them glitching or crashing?
