Unlike Fanboys, Gears 2 Designer Doesn't Compare Game To Resistance 2

The PS3 has an exclusive sci-fi shooter called Resistance 2 due on November 4th. The Xbox 360 has an exclusive sci-fi shooter called Gears of War 2 due on November 7th. Should you view the two as competitors? Gears of War 2 designer Cliff Bleszinski doesn't.
Speaking to Das Gamer, Bleszinski made it clear that there's no Jets vs. Sharks, Socs vs. Greasers thing between GoW developer Epic Games and Resistance dev Insomniac Games. No rumbles outside of the soda shop for these guys. "I have a lot of respect for Insomniac. Ted (Price) is a wonderful guy and I think they do great work," Bleszinski said. "Everybody loves this dynasty shit where they want to see Ted and I fighting in a fountain pulling each other’s hair or something like that. Sorry, but it’s not going to happen. They’re making their own sci-fi extravaganza, as are we. When you break it down and look at each game, it’s largely apples to oranges. " Apples to oranges might not be the best metaphor for it. Comparing Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 is more like comparing two different kinds of apples that are going to make ass-tons of money on different consoles. Point made, though, Cliff.

I don't get it...the games are both shooters (one an fps the other a tps), both are from second-party party developers, though made as exclusives to Sony and Microsoft, and both are releasing close enough to be twins from a womb. Yet he doesn't want people comparing them as rivals? Ha!
I'm sorry, I just don't buy it. Cliff shouldn't have been running his mouth off earlier in the year about how great Gears 2 would be and how anticipated it would be over the competition.
