From October 5th to October 11th there’s been some nice revelations, a little concept art and some friendly gestures of anti-fanboyism. What that means is that we have a good recap for you this week. Early on in the week we had some kick-butt concept art from the highly-awaited Time Splitters 4, a Top 5 for some killer games, news about Sony’s MMOs being very affable to console gaming, Cliffy B talking Resistance 2, and some PSP-3000 news. So let’s get this show on the road.
Sunday also managed to produce news, or screens, about Time Splitters 4. Those radical free radicals at Free Radical have released some new conceptual art designs for TS4, and it’s as over-the-top and radical as you might expect. A chainsaw wielding nun is all I’m going to say...and maybe monkeys. Regardless, you really need to see the concept art.
Monday The PSP-3000, which is officially not a vacuum cleaner, will be available in two $199.99 bundle packs, next week. The sleek looking vacuum...I mean, portable gaming device will come bundled with Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo and a download voucher for Echochrome. Believe it or not, there’s even more info regarding this bundle pack, and since I have run out of breath laying out the details, thus far, you’re just going to have to click on the link to the get the rest of the info.
The Watchmen game is potentially not going to suck. That says a lot, it really does. I, personally, still have my reservations. But Zack Snyder, the savvy director of 300 and the upcoming Watchmen movie, felt the same way about movie-games as gamers feel about movie-games. So he wanted to make sure the Watchmen game wasn’t a movie-game. Eh, well, it’ll still be a movie-game it’s just that it won’t be likened to the bad movie-games. If that doesn’t make a lick of sense to you, just click the link and get the full low-down on the Watchmen game.
Tuesday Insightful thoughts from Cliffy B and Pete H on developer swapping. The B-dog isn’t really digging the new trend of switching up developers for different IP. And that makes a lot of sense, because sales forbid that a new developer actually handles the IP better than the original developer. But that’s not what the Cliffster is talking about in this article, and it would do you well to read the designer’s thoughts on this oh-so-sensitive subject.
Wednesday Blend Games’ writer Alex Thorton writes about the big LucasArts/BioWare announcement regarding the KOTOR MMO. The rumors have been circulating like a Hollywood starlet involved in a teenage pregnancy. While it’s not concrete that it’s a KOTOR MMO, everyone is already speculating as much. Plus, BioWare was acquired by EA and EA’s talk-too-much-for-his-own-good CEO, John Riccitiello, even hinted at the Star Wars MMO. But what are you reading this for? Go on and click the link so you’re not just going on hearsay. I dare you.
Kotaku falls, Kotaku falls! So says some site statistics. But what caused the downfall, and is it heading this way? More importantly, why is Kotaku falling when it should be imploding? Nevermind. Just head on over to the article to see what the full Monty is regarding Kotaku.
Thursday Kombat Kollection Edition Alert for Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe.
I’m not sure what’s up with the ‘K’ thing in Midway’s references to Mortal Kombat, but it seems to have lost some appeal since the late 90's. Anyway, a collector’s edition of the new MK vs. DC game is going to be kompletely available for fans who just have to spend a few extra bucks for a few extra goodies. Click the link to find out what those goodies are.
Crap games for Xbox Live won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. So says John Schappert, a VP for Microsoft. Instead, the company has decided to add new filtering and sorting options, so gamers can better filter out the crap, instead of just removing the crap. It’s like adding more air fresheners to a bathroom instead of just flushing the toilet. Thank you, Microsoft, for not flushing the toilet.
The Weekly Blend Battle has started a new battle for a new week. This time Casual gamers are going head-to-head with Hardcore gamers. Oh, the insanity. Based on the results, it appears more of our readers sided with the hardcore crowd this time, despite the bad press. Check it out for yourself to get the full story.
Saturday Cliffy B. doesn’t want people throwing oranges at his apples. Well, he didn’t say that, exactly. But the gist is that there’s no rivalry between Gears 2 and Resistance 2. Please. But for the sake of anti-fanboyism, we’ll all pretend that both games won’t have either camp clamoring to say that R2 makes the PS3 better than the 360, or Gears 2 making the 360 better than the PS3. Check the entire article out to find out exactly what Clifford had to say.
