Far Cry 2 is due this Fall and Ubisoft already has their eye on the horizon. They're in the preliminary stages of planning Far Cry 3 and they decided to clue the public into their brainstorming process. One of their ideas for a new setting might surprise you.
Patrick Redding, narrative designer for Far Cry 2, told VG247 that "There are still things we want to do with the African setting, and I think it’s safe to say we’ll continue to explore it." He did leave the door open for a radically different setting, though, adding: "we might find something new and compelling about the Antarctic setting."
Of course, shifting the series to frozen tundra would be a pretty big change and Redding admits that it would take much less work to stick with a setting that, even if it isn't African, is still similar. He offers the example of a South American forest, which seems like a good compromise between novelty and familiarity for the series. Obviously nothing's nailed down yet about Far Cry 3 but it wouldn't be a big shock to see the series end up on the Amazon river.
That being said, gunfights on crumbling Antarctic ice shelves wouldn't suck, either.
