Jason Bourne has finally made his way onto consoles, and surprisingly didn’t come off as a half-ass movie cash in game. Vivendi instead went with an original style approach by not using Matt Damon for their character, going with a more generic looking Bourne based on Ludlum’s novels. The result is a game that is full of the intense action you’d expect – especially melee combat – and a main character that you can’t help but feel is a bad as mofo.

If you’re going into The Bourne Conspiracy hoping that your view on video games will be altered in any way, then yes you’ll be disappointed. The game isn’t exiting because it invents anything truly special. Sometimes it is nice to grab hold of a character that kicks ass and then proceed to do what he does best. The sweet satisfaction of skillfully taking an enemy out by slide kicking and then shooting him as he flies down a flight a stairs should never get old. It’s not like you’d be able to do something like that in real life.

The Bourne Conspiracy may not be the must buy game of this week, but it certainly ranks right up there with a must try. Get your Gamefly account queued up so you can get in on the action. Just be prepared for some abhorrent driving sequences, which is sad because Bourne is well known for his skillful and outlandish driving antics. This time around you’ll more than likely want to choke him out as the controls just down work.

Don’t underestimate Bourne, the game may not be the polished piece of AAA perfection we’ve come to expect with titles like GTA IV and Ninja Gaiden II popping up but it holds its own just fine.
