At the Spike VGAs, Activision formally announced a sequel to open-world game Prototype. The new trailer should be good news to those of you who didn't like Prototype protagonist Alex Mercer.
For Prototype 2, it seems the main character is a veteran named Sergeant James Heller. He returned from the war to find New York City being ripped apart by a mutating virus. His family, it seems, has been killed by this outbreak.
In a suicidal rage, Heller heads into New York and tries to kill as many Infected as possible. However, the shapeshifting Mercer ends up infecting him as well. Heller now has powers similar to Alex. However, he doesn't feel gratitude. Instead, he wants to kill Mercer.
That's not the cleanest plot summary I've ever written by that's all I was able to gather from the trailer. It could be awhile before the plot is clarified further; the game is slated for 2012.
