One year ago, id Software launched Quake Live, a free browser-based shooter modeled after Quake III. Today they've launched an update with a few anniversary surprises.

From now until March 9th, any players who complete an online match in Quake Live will get a special award called 'The First of Many!' for their account. A new map, Fallout Bunker, is now live as well. Screenshots of the map are below. The full patch notes for today's update can be found at the Quake Live forums.

Quake Live has over forty maps that are playable in five different game modes. All that's needed to play is an Internet-capable computer that doesn't completely suck. For the exact details on how to sign up, check out the official FAQ.
