As if it wasn't expected, Resident Evil 5 has sold 5 million copies worldwide. This was revealed by Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in Tokyo.

According to Abe and the Reuters report, the action/horror survival title sold 4.4 million units in March and a half million units in April. During the conference, Abe also spoke of expanding Capcom overseas by at least ten percent each year. “We aim to achieve 10 percent growth in sales and hit an operating margin of 15 percent each year. But acquisitions are not how we are going to do that, at least for now.”

Added Abe: “We plan to strengthen our own business first, and only after completing that process, we will think about things like acquisitions.”

Resident Evil 5 has not been Capcom's only success this year. Street Fighter IV has also shipped more than 2.5 million units worldwide.
