Konami announced today that Metal Gear Online will get free content later this month. A new "Race Mission" game mode and "Patriots" feature will be made available to all players in the coming weeks.

In a "Race Mission" match, two teams are competing to see how far they can carry an object across the map while attempting to impede the other team's progress. "Each time a team passes a check point with its target in hand, a new checkpoint will be generated. If a team drops its target and the target is not retrieved within a set period of time, the target’s position will be reset and the checkpoint will change," explains Konami's Brandon Laurino on Playstation Blog. This new mode will go online on May 12th.

Starting May 26th, MGO servers will randomly select players each week to be "Patriots." These lucky souls will have exclusive access to a 5.56mm Hand Rifle with infinite ammunition and no reload until the next ranking update. It's not known how many "Patriots" will be chosen per week.

MGO's one-year anniversary is on June 18th. Laurino promises that Konami's got something special up their sleeve for the occasion and we should get some information about that soon.
