The NPD released their March 2009 sales data tonight and the big winners last month were Resident Evil 5 and the Wii. The Wii and a shooter sequel both sold well? Yes, we were completely unsurprised too.
Software:
Resident Evil 5 (Capcom, 360) - 938K
Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo, DS) - 805K
Halo Wars (Microsoft, 360) - 639K
Resident Evil 5 (Capcom, PS3) - 585K
Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii) - 541K
MLB ‘09: The Show (Sony, PS3) - 305K
Killzone 2 (Sony, PS3) - 296K
Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii) - 281K
Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii) - 278K
Major League Baseball 2K9 (Take Two, 360) - 205K
Hardware:
Wii - 601,000
DS - 563,000
Xbox 360 - 330,000
PS3 - 218,000
PSP - 168,000
PS2 - 112,000
This is the second month in a row that a Capcom game tore up the charts. In February, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Street Fighter IV were the second and third best sellers, respectively. The hardware sales rankings, meanwhile, are the exact same as last month. Wii and DS are still going strong; I'm interested to see how the DS sales change in April on account of the DSi launch.
