Resident Evil: Extinction Blu-ray Has Trailers, Not DemosAuthor: Pete Haas

Capcom issued a statement on Friday on its blog that the Blu-ray disc for the film Resident Evil: Extinction will ship with trailers for two of its upcoming games, Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4. The reaction amongst gamers? Disappointment.
Capcom was clarifying remarks by Sony Pictures, who had stated the Blu-ray would have demos for both of those games. That, of course, set off the usual gamer feeding frenzy. Everyone wants to see the trailers, of course, but they’re a far cry from playable excerpts of the games. There’s nothing underhanded behind Sony’s announcement. The Blu-ray disc doesn’t come out until January 2nd so luckily no gamers bought this under the mistaken impression there’d be playable demos on it. It’s just a case of a film company not knowing how loaded of a term “demo” is to gamers. Sure, it’s just an abbreviation of “demonstration” (which can mean anything) but with gaming it’s come to imply playability. I don’t expect every film rep out there to understand gamer terminology but…AAAARGGHHHH! “Sorry for the confusion! The disc is still going to be pretty rad,” added the Capcom blog. Maybe so, but I don’t plan on buying it. Maybe this will help Sony realize the difference between a demo and a trailer – gamers will buy a movie they don’t even like to get their hands on a demo but not for a trailer. Trailers are what YouTube is for. |
