Rumor: Call Of Duty 7 Set During Cold WarAuthor: Pete Haas

The Call of Duty franchise was initially centered on World War II but Infinity Ward brought the series to the modern day. The other developer involved with the series, Treyarch, might be leaving World War II behind as well with their next installment.
ThatVideoGameBlog was told by a "reliable" source that COD publisher Activision wants to license "Vietnam War era tunes, as well as Cuban, African, and Soviet Union music" for Call of Duty 7. This suggests that the game will be set during the Cold War and feature various conflicts from the era. Vietnam's a natural pick for a Cold War COD theater but Africa and Cuba? Interesting. Maybe the single-player campaign will feature the Cuban Revolution and Angolan Civil War. A Cold War Call of Duty would certainly be a dramatic change for the series. Previous COD games are very "black and white" conflicts with British and American soldiers kicking terrorist/fascist ass. Imagine a game that has you playing as a Cuban revolutionary in Fidel Castro's army? Or maybe you'll fight for the Batista government, go into exile in the U.S. when you lose the war, and then participate in the failed Bay of Pigs invasion? This is really unexplored turf not only for COD but for any shooter. Continuing the tradition of yearly COD installments, COD7 will probably be released in Fall 2010. Doubt we'll hear any official word about the game from Activision anytime soon. They'll be busy throughout the summer and fall promoting Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2. |
