When Guitar Hero World Tour is released, you won't need to worry about all the songs you downloaded for Guitar Hero III going to rot. Apparently they'll all be compatible with World Tour.

I assume the Guitar Hero III DLC tracks will only be playable with guitar but there's the slight chance Neversoft might enhance the old DLC so it makes use of the new microphone and drum peripherals. Yeah, I don't think that'll happen either but a fake musician can dream, can't he?

It's thoughtful of Neversoft but it makes the incompatibility of Guitar Hero III songs with the soon-to-be-released Guitar Hero: Aerosmith all the more confusing and annoying. In turn, the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith songs won't be offered as DLC for Guitar Hero III or World Tour. So basically, if Guitar Hero was a movie series, Aerosmith would be the sequel that the other directors pretended didn't exist. Kind of like Highlander II. Or Highlander III.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is due in stores on June 29th and World Tour is due on October 27th.
