Sony is giving away one PlayStation Mobile game per week, starting yesterday with a free copy of Samurai Beatdown for anyone with a PlayStation Vita or PlayStation Certified Device. A “two birds with one stone” kind of promotion, this move will likely have the double benefit of introducing gamers to the PlayStation Mobile platform, as well as build good will among customers with six free games to enjoy.
Over the next six weeks, Sony will be making a PlayStation Mobile title free to download. New free titles will go live every Wednesday and remain at a price point of zero dollars for the next seven days. The promotion runs through the week of Feb. 19.
You can think of PlayStation Mobile as a hopped up version of PlayStation Minis. They’re smaller, cheaper games, many of which have already found success on other mobile platforms. Even though the tab for viewing the PS Mobile library is located right at the top of the store window for Vita users, many gamers have no idea that this collection of bite-sized goodness even exists. That’s probably a big driving factor behind this ongoing promotion, which has officially launched this week with Samurai Beatdown, a side-scrolling, tap-happy rhythm game.
“To kick off this party, we needed to find a title with a lot of punch, and we couldn’t think of anything more appropriate than Samurai Beatdown,” said PlayStation Digital Platforms Community Manager, Paul Sullivan on the PlayStation Blog. “This fast-paced, side-scrolling slash-em-up pits your samurai rhythm skills against waves and waves of evil demons.”
To grab your free copy of Samurai Beatdown, just boot up the PlayStation Store on your Vita, click on the “Mobile” tab at the top of the page, find the game and start downloading. If you own a Sony smartphone or tablet, or perhaps an HTC Android device that is PlayStation certified, all you have to do is download the PlayStation Mobile Android App, open it, and grab Samurai Beatdown free of charge.
Now all we have to do is sit and wait patiently for the next free PS Mobile game to be made available on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
