Scarface Nominated And Gunning For A WinAuthor: William Usher

For a brief period of time Scarface chainsawed and shot its way into the number one spot for the fall season. Released on the Xbox and PS2, Scarface was a no-holds-barred take on Tony Montana’s luxurious regain of power. While the game has received mixed scores from reviewers, it certainly hasn’t failed to impress the VGA voters.
With an impressive 5 nominations, Scarface is certainly poised to take home some gold. It’s almost a no-brainer, though. Scarface: The World is Yours is a replica of GTA that did some things better than the video game King of controversy. The violent, foul-mouthed protagonist, Tony Montana, was no different than CJ or Tommy from the GTA series; toss in some sexual content, a near goofy storyline, classic vehicles, and tons of freedom and BAM! Instant award-nominee. Speaking of nominations, Scarface: TWIY is a “Vector Monkey” nominee for the following categories: Best Soundtrack; Best Game Based on a Movie or TV Show; James Woods - Best Male, Supporting; Vida Guerra - Best Performance by a Human, Female; and Best Cast. Not very appealing nominations (save for Vida Guerra), but a nomination is a nomination. I’m sure Scarface will pick up none of the awards; as every award on the show will all be synonymously given to Gears of War. I’m not happy about it, but GOW was too hyped not to win everything. But then again, the gamers have a chance to vote...so all hope is not lost. In fact, you can vote for (and purchase) Scarface: The World is Yours from the Sierra online shop. As for the 2006 Video Game Awards, it’ll be airing on SpikeTV. Remember to check your local listings for an exact day and time.
