The Secret World Finally Gets A Release Date, Beta Sign-Ups Start August 26th

After years and years of waiting, Funcom’s highly anticipated, MMO third-person shooter, The Secret World will finally become available starting in April, 2012. Thank you Funcom! …and EA.

After hitting a financial patch that disturbed Funcom’s developmental progress on The Secret World they needed a little bit of help and direction of publishing giant, Electronic Arts. The company finally got back on track, especially after taking Age of Conan: Unchained into the free-to-play realm, which garnered them a cool 300,000 new users in less than a month.

Senior Producer and Creative Director Ragnar Tørnquist commented in the press release about the news of The Secret World finally getting a release date, saying…

“It has never been more rewarding working on ‘The Secret World’ than it is now,” ... “The progress we are making in development allows the whole team to really enjoy just playing the game for hours on end. We are all looking forward to bringing in players through upcoming betas, and their feedback will be crucial to the further development of the game as we progress toward the April, 2012 launch.”

No one word yet has been confirmed on the status of the Xbox 360 version of the game, but it’s safe to say that until Microsoft implements the new free-to-play model for Xbox Live we won’t be seeing any of those planned MMOs on the 360 anytime soon.

You can register to participate in the upcoming beta tests for The Secret World starting August 26th. For more information feel free to visit the Official Website.
