Funcom finally gave the ‘ole heave-ho to the embargo on the gameplay details for their upcoming modern-day, sci-fi MMORPG, The Secret World. With the embargo dead and gone that means that new screenshots are now available and new gameplay details can finally be revealed.

The game features three different factions for players to join and it takes place within modern-day society. The twist is that monsters all come from historic lore, science fiction and popular fantasy tales.

The locations for Secret World span from real-world places that include Asia, Europe, North America and Egypt. Gamers can even hang out at local urban places to interact with other players; pubs, bars and night clubs work as the social hub for players, which is kind of cool and different. The character creation process is also based on freeform leveling so players build a character based on actions rather than predetermined skill rankings and class distinctions.

The new screenshots showoff static player classes, including a few that are wielding swords while others are armed to the teeth with guns. Some awesome creatures are also on display and the sprawling urban environments are the centerpiece for all the action.
