Sega Teases New 2D Sonic Title

Those of you that have been clamoring for a new 2D Sonic title, just might be in luck. Sega of America’s brand manager, Ken Balough confirmed recently that the developer is currently working on a new blue hedgehog title operating under the name “Project Needlemouse.”

Balough stated that the game will indeed be a 2D platformer with complete HD graphics:
"Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay…Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots."

The project is slated for a 2010 release but there has been no official word for which platforms it will release on. I would assume that HD means no Nintendo Wii. Bummer. The teaser trailer is through the link.
