Personally I enjoy the Fight Night games, and I can tolerate the Def Jam series. I’m not sure who the latter is really for, as none of it makes sense…even while you’re pulling off barbaric and ludicrously awesome moves. But still Kudo Tsunoda, former head of EA Chicago, has a knack for flare in games. Lots of scantily clad women, some tight fight mechanics and decent soundtracks. Which is why it sounded so odd that Microsoft would put him in charge of the Gears of War brand. If you weren’t aware, that’s a shooter.
Shane Kim, corporate VP of Microsoft, confirmed to IGN last week that this was indeed the case. When asked about Tsunoda’s role at Microsoft Game Studios Kim said, "We wanted to put more focus behind [Gears], and it's great to get a creative lead like Kudo." As he had the rest of the D.I.C.E. conference Shane Kim was adept at dodging pointed questions, this time about Gears of War 2. He told IGN that Tsunoda’s appointment as head of the Gears brand did not necessarily mean a sequel was coming, only that there’s much more that could be done in the original.
Yeah sure, so the rest of us will just sit back and wait for the announcement of Gears of War 2 at GDC. Or E3. Or whenever, because we know it’s coming…and soon.
