It seems the positive buzz surrounding 2D indie fighting title, Reverge's Skullgirls, has paid off. The XBLA game has sold over 50,000 copies in just over a week following its launch.
The figure is all the more impressive considering that the game isn't fully available yet within Europe. Skullgirls has been released worldwide on Xbox Live Arcade but its PlayStation Network release in PAL regions has yet to come into fruition.
"Even with a partial EU/ANZ release, #Skullgirls managed to sell over 50,000 copies in its first 10 days of release!" revealed the game's official Twitter account.
Skullgirl's success is indeed just one of the recent digital titles to have surpassed sales expectations. Thechineseroom's Esther, a PC horror title, racked up 50,000 sales within the duration of a week a few months ago.
Red Lynx's Trials Evolution is a more recent downloadable title -- also released on Xbox Live Arcade -- which experienced commercial success. On launch day alone, 100,000 copies of the sequel were sold, subsequently setting a record on Xbox Live. Moreover, a week after its launch, the game has approached 500,000 copies sold.
Skullgirls' European release on the PlayStation Network is due next week.
