The biggest wrestling game of the year...one of the only wrestling games of the year, is SD vs. Raw 2K8. And our continued coverage of this game leading up to its release is an absolute honor for us. So for this article outing CB Games will take a look at the newly released fighting style trailer.
One of the things that really helped distinguish Def Jam: Fight for NY was the fighting-style-driven No Mercy engine. Well take that general concept and multiply it two-fold over, because SD vs. Raw 2K8 features one of the most comprehensive fighting engines around. Grapplers, power wrestlers, high-flyers/luchadores, dirty fighters, technicians and the like will all have exploitation maneuvers that generate from their overall fighting style.
There’s also various moves and specials that are connected to specific wrestling styles in which players can use at pivotal times in a match to turn the tide of the bout. In the following trailer, Bobby Lashley demonstrates his power kick-out that gets him out of a tight jam. Randy Orton uses his cheap tactics to use the ref as a means of defending himself – and as an offensive against his opponent.
Now, so far, my only complaint is that the camera shots aren’t quite as televised as they should be. The realism factors easily double when the camera angles reflect real-life television tapings. Still, in due time I’m sure those minor issues will be resolved. In the meantime, enjoy GT’s Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 footage below.
