Masters of illusion like Cris Angel (FREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!) use sleight of hand to keep your attention diverted, and with the recent news surrounding Smash Bros. Brawl Nintendo has become a grand mega master. So, the game was delayed, right? Who cares, because we have Sonic, motherbitches! Not going to play this awesome game until February of 2008? Pshh…silence you fool, there are saved films being incorporated into a damn Wii game. Today, the official Smash Bros website updated with the latest distraction…errr, news.
Here’s how the stage-building feature works as of right now (the site does warn things could change before release). You enter a grid like screen where you can place pieces, which can be flipped and resized. Palettes can be swapped to make a ginormous number of possible itinerations of your level. When all of your hard work is done the level can be saved to an SD card. This is extremely cool, and I’m honestly surprised such a feature rich element is being implemented in a Wii game. But things go further than even that, with the first truly great community feature for the Wii. Creators will be able to share their saved levels with friends and Nintendo via the wi-fi connection. When the game launches Nintendo will pick the best stages to share with the entire community, and after a 24 hour period the stage is deleted to make room for another. Seriously, that has just been announced for a Wii game. I’m currently in shock, and a little awe, that Smash Bros Brawl will have something so monumentally cool. Fans of the series – and the Wii – have now been given an official cool card that previously only existed on the 360 and PS3 consoles. Of course, with the limited space of SD cards the stages will be quite small in file size. So it isn’t yet clear how fully featured this will be, but you might want to check your pants. |
