Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I was released on the Wii and other platforms back in 2010. Sega confirmed this weekend that the upcoming follow-up, Episode II, will be bypassing Nintendo's console.

"The reason Episode I was on the Wii was because we wanted to bring the Sonic 4 saga to the widest possible audience," brand manager Ken Balough told Destructoid. "Episode II unfortunately will not be coming to the Wii -- for reasons most people have probably guessed, but that doesn’t mean the SEGA isn’t supporting Nintendo platforms, we have a very strong partnership and will continue to do so."

Episode II will bring back Sonic's sidekick Tails. It will also sport a new graphics and physics engine. Sega is attempting to incorporate all of the gamer feedback on Episode I into the sequel.

Sega plans to release Episode II in 2012. It's being developed for the Xbox 360, PS3, Android, iOS, and Windows 7 mobile phones.
