Teaser trailers are supposed titillate the fan’s senses. Get you revved up with the knowledge of your favorite blue hedgehog returning to consoles. Perhaps this time things will be different. But with the gameplay footage leak of Sonic Unleashed, the new teaser trailer is deflated. It is also helped quite a bit.

On it’s own the trailer goes from nostalgia to abysmal. Classic Sonic flipping a ring, whistling a jaunty old tune is a fantastic way to reintroduce the character. Then the grunting and zombie moans start up and we get a glimpse of Sonic the Werehog. It’s a disappointing end, and while we’re sure the convoluted story will explain why Sonic changes into a beast, it’ll still be ridiculous anime weirdness. Let’s hope he doesn’t find any human girls to copulate with. Sonic is a “Mature” rating away from tentacle porn at this point.

But the gameplay footage that’s been leaked gives me the glimmer of hope I’ll hold on to. Yes, I know that other recent Sonic games looked to have potential. And I was burned then, and I’m wary now. There’s that little boy way deep inside that just wants one more glorious adventure with Sonic. Is that too much to ask?
