Sony Wants You To Design A DualShock 3

There's something about playing with a controller that you really like that makes gaming that much more enjoyable. For that reason, Sony is asking the players to take part in designing the next DualShock 3 controller.

Beating the pants off of your friends in Street Fighter IV is nice. But beating the panst off of your friends in Street Fighter IV with your specially purchased fire-red controller, well, that takes the enjoyment up to a whole new level.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, they've kicked off a DualShock 3 design contest that runs from now through Aug. 15. They aren't asking you to flip the buttons around or to design a more ergonomically comfortable apparatus. Instead, they just want you to share your ideas about what you'd like to see from a color/design standpoint.

Ideas can be shared and voted upon at the following website. There are a boatload of ideas already, but that doesn't mean it's too late to throw your own hat in the ring, or at least vote on those options that have been suggested already.

So far, suggestions are all over the board. Someone is requesting a tie-dyed purple, pink and red controller. I'm pretty sure that would look terrible, but maybe that's your cup-o-tea. This other guy wants a steampunk design. And here's one for “wooden.” See what I'm saying? You absolutely need to get in here and start voting. Otherwise, we're going to end up with a sparkle-pony controller, and nobody wants that.
