Taito’s Space Invaders Extreme has recently been announced as being available for the Xbox Live Arcade. All the high-def blocks and bad guys are making a return to home consoles on the Xbox 360 and you can finally get your hands on this remake of a historic arcade title.

“We are proud to celebrate 30 years of continued Space Invaders popularity, and bringing the game to Xbox LIVE Arcade is a critical step to the next evolution of the game,” said Seiji Kawakami, Producer, Taito Corporation. “In Space Invaders Extreme for XBLA, we retain the vintage 2-D look and classic gameplay of the original, while taking advantage of the HD graphics and sound capabilities, as well as expanding the multiplayer functionality to allow for even more people to play and enjoy the game together.”

Backbone Entertainment’s rendition of Space Invaders Extreme offers the same 2D-ish aesthetics in high-definition output, new cooperative modes that allow for up to four-players to do Arcade, Versus or Survival modes, and synchronized music and sound effects that correlates to the action on-screen.
